Any DIY pedal builders on TB? Strut your stuff!

I think I'll give Digikey a go for the PCBs next iteration. I order like 80% of my parts from them anyway. I'm like you, I have chests full of 1/4W PTH resistors in my workshop that I feel like using. I think I will generally stick with PTH parts for audio circuits at least for a while but as you can see above, I'm using all SMD stuff for the power conversion circuits, at least partly because the chips aren't available in DIPs any more but also because a lot of them are very sensitive to layout and it's easier to manage ground planes with SMD bits.

My main motivation for going with SMDs is the much better selection of opamps. This is especially true of the moderate current ones (<1mA per section) I'm using in onboard preamp builds. But being able to readily procure 0.1% tolerance resistors and 2% film caps is pretty great for stuff like filter applications too. OTOH, I hand match those components pretty regularly and of course that works just fime.

Got the tiny mini mixer board built and tested, both that and the simple gain board are now on share at OSHpark. I'll work up documentation ASAP, hope someone will find these useful.

@Passinwind can you put up the name of the share for the mixer. I cant find it on oshpark.

Nice simple bitcrusher as long as you keep playing over the constant whine.
First attempt with two TL072's gave only clean buffered sound. Reflowed solder and tried again and it worked! ...for about 5 minutes, then reverted back to a clean buffer in the middle of playing. I could touch a few parts on the circuit board to get it working again, but couldn't replicate it with alligator clips. So I spent a while chasing grounding gremlins that never existed. Added redundant ground jumpers. Swapped a few parts. Couldn't get it working again. So I took a break, read on tagboardeffects using NE5532 for the oscillator was the trick, and now it works again!

You never disappoint in your responses. Always good for a smile and a laugh. It is great having the big dogs joining in on here. The fact that they are willing to share knowledge is icing on the cake. I love the TB community but have never really joined in any discussions or threads until this one. This is by far my all time favorite thread.

That's the standalone variable resonance LPF prototype, I finally cracked the code today and got it all working as expected. :bassist::bassist::bassist:
 
I have it booked marked for easy reference. Is the stand alone LPF available or will it be?

It's always been in my plans to be freely available as part of the open source adventure, but I just got it working last night, so it might be a few weeks yet. Right now I'm playing around with different all SMD layouts but I expect to do an "easy build" option eventually as well.

How's that circuit on bass @JoeDaddio ?

I wasn't too confident about it when I found out it's compressor circuit is based on the Dynacomp, so I put it at the bottom of the build queue.

I would say that you probably won't find anything terribly new or unique about it. It is pretty tame and can be used to beef things up a bit or to get a hollow, lo-fi sound. The sustain was tweaked according to the build doc's to act more as a limiter and there's no clipping or distortion or volume loss while playing or anything.

I don't think that anyone will ever *need* this pedal, but it is usable. I feel like some many effects I see are so over the top and unless you want to sound like that effect and only that effect you're only using about 3% of it to add a little flavor. This pedal will probably actually get used because it's not doing anything all that incredible or crazy. It gives a little weight and warmth at a few settings which is nice, but I don't think that anyone will use it and be like "I need this thing!"

It was a fun build and I think it looks awesome. I'll have to keep it on my pedalboard just for the style points even if I don't use it.

That's the classic old school Uncle Fluffy/TB Stingray job, there are a few long threads on it here.
I figured as much. I need something to put in my kids P bass project (imagine that, another project...) Its a Squier Affinity I bought for $10 to use as a beater. I bought one of those $14 MM pickups a few years ago and it's been sitting. So I'll install that and this preamp to give it a little more kick.
