FOUND IT! From the New Haven Arena show. My friend Rich Hodgkins took this. His left elbow was on the stage and Zappa was right above him. Awesome show!

Looks like Jimmy Carl Black in the red shirt, with Bunk Gardner's face just poking out from the left edge of the pic.
When I was in high school circa 1977 I could have recited that entire album, start to finish, verbatim. Lyrics, monologues, melodies, solos...

My favorite Zappa period was the early Mothers, with its bizarre collision of sloppy '50s rock 'n' roll and doo wop and avant-garde classical and electronic music. "Absolutely Free" is my favorite album of his, and "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" is a masterpiece!

practice practice practice... we wrote an ‘original’ song called ‘the last one to leave never has to say goodbye’ that was basically the riff from the first part of brown shoes, with our guitar player’s lyrics.
