Any MINI owners here???

my old room mat eowned an online car forum site and a lot of the guys that would post on their from car groups like Gotham Dream Cars and such would have a ferrari or porsche in their garage alongside a mini cooper S and would often times find the mini cooper to be just as fun if not more fun to drive than the full sized sport car. i dont know how you could hate them, as a car enthusiast after that scene in the italian job, or bourne identity, whichever matt damon flick it was. haha

currently i drive a 2000 saab 9-3se and loooooove it. for a 4 cylinder turbo it certainly picks up quick. the fastest i have done in it is 135mph and it felt like i was gliding. great cars.

A friend of mine is the engineering editor of European Car magazine. He's been driving a press car recently, a Lotus Exige. I got to see it and sit in it last night.

You sure can't fit a bass rig in that thing. Hell, I could barely get in or out of it.

A guy I used to work with owned a few Lotus'. He had an Elise and an Esprit S4S. He's planning to get an Exige 240R. They're impractical, and bare-bones, but they handle better than anything, and they're a blast to drive. I got to drive the Elise a few times, so much fun.

DeLorean had very little to do with the engineering. He was the designer, this is true, but the engineering was mostly done by third parties, a lot of which was performed by Lotus. If DeLorean had more of a knowledge of engineering, the car might have either been more successful, or never built at all. The final product, the DeLorean we know, is a far cry from Johns original design.

Ever find a link of what the original design looked like? That could be interesting. I heard recently that someone bought the name and design, it might reappear sometime. I would love to grab an original one, they were really nice cars, although the performance wasn't what was predicted.

Well, most of the "chicks" I've known (...and there have been a few...:D), including my now one-and only "chick".....

Either really don't care about the car, or kinda dig the performance characteristics (no double-entendre meant, either!)

Seriously, a car is a car...not a cigar!

Sports/Performance cars like the Mini's, Lotus, Viper, Beemers, whatever...Hey-It's fun to drive, that's it.

My WRX- I LOVE IT! Carves turns, holds the road, and when I need to pass a semi-truck on the highway, it's bye-bye!

When I'm not stuck in traffic here in SoCal (which isn't too often)
....Driving a car with some character is lots of fun.

Whether "chicks dig it" or not!

...And of course we all know what the Lay-deez really dig is...

My Mesa Boogie all-tube rig. Boy, do they get HOT when they see that big boy....:hiding:

Sat in / briefly drove a DeLorean, completely mint, that was being sold to Gunnar Nelson 2 days later....thing was neat, but the design, especially the interior, was BORING. and the car was SLOW.

iirc, Deloreans had a Ford drivetrain, and not a necessarily peppy one either...especially with that heavy ass Stainless body. Neat historical vehicle tho...no coke in the back either. :smug:

I've never seen the original stuff online. The body style didn't change much, it was the functional aspects that changed, evolved, and ultimately failed. I know DeLorean wanted the original car to weigh around 1800 lbs. He picked the engine to match, but when the car ended up weighing around 3000 lbs, with the same engine, it was kind of a dog. It wasn't terrible, 186HP, but DeLorean envisioned supercar-like performance, Ferrari type numbers, that's definitely not what was made.

A company in Texas bought the rights to DeLorean, I can't remember their name off the top of my head, but I know that they were the premier DeLorean restoration company in the country, probably the world, for years before they actually purchased the rights, and now that they have the rights, they plan to start a small production line for the DeLoreans. Hopefully they'll address some of the weight issues, and put a far better engine in there. With the Lotus built chassis, it handled very well, at the time, it's major shortcomings were just the weight, the engine, and I think at the time, the price.

And that idea is just as silly now as when you first uttered it. A performance car with good fuel economy and excellent handling = chick car is something straight out of the 80's. Granted, it's not a pickup or a Trans Am. It won't help someone like you prove your manhood.

Agreed, while I have not been limited to just talking to them, you most likely do think you have some edge on insight. And just as an aside... anyone with the ability to speak is "capable" of talking to women... men, women, children... even guys who base their manhood on a vehicle. Maybe, someday, you'll figure that out. Doesn't look promising so far.

Deloreans came with a Volvo engine and the performance was underwhelming. I remember stopping by a dealer back then and a salesperson trying to convince me it was twin turbo based on the air filters. When I asked how they connected to the exhaust, he looked at me like I had horns.
