Anybody ever play in a shipping container?

I’ve seen plenty of bands play on open flatbed trailers. But not a shipping container. Great idea though. Just box up your gear and don’t have to haul it back and forth.

Yes, played at a small rural fair and that was the stage opposite the bar at the beer tent. The front dropped down like that to make a stage. I was a very rusty container but not a bad setup.

I used to play a street festival every year in Highland Co. Virginia that the Town's stage was a short semi-trailer with a side that winched down like this. It was wired for multiple receptacles, lighting, and made a great stage. It was hot as dammit-all though on Independence Day. I wish I had pictures of that old thing... I bet they still have it.

Yup..years ago in a misty park early in the morning for a Terry Fox Run fundraiser.
I think we played from 7am to 10am. The walls of the container were "weeping" a little bit from the humidity but it worked out ok.

I have played in more than one storage container. They used to be popular "stages" at outdoor county fairs and various carnivals.

Luckily, most of ours had acoustic treatments. The ones that didn't were a sonic nightmare.

I was gonna say, it sounds like a (sound wave) reflective challenge.

Not a shipping container, but a boxy, flatbed where the top 3/4 of the front wall opened to form a ceiling and the bottom 1/4 dropped to help form a stage. Hydraulics lifted and closed both easily. Permanently mounted onto an 18-wheeler flatbed. Acoustics were horrible. Absolutely no acoustic treatment in any form or fashion. I played three times in it, and I hated each one. Cool idea, but a few hundred on baffling would have helped enormously.

I played inside an aircraft carrier once. Metal walls, metal floors, metal ceiling. The damn thing is still echoing.

Yes but out the butt end with our drummer in the very back blasting us like a sound cannon. I kinda miss the days of not having a real job and playing random places just for an excuse to play. Life was always an adventure. Cell phones ruined them days… I just typed this on my cell phone…

I played a shipping container the same way about 10 years ago. The band was playing out the back door and all the space behind us in the front of the container was wasted space. Weird but the crowd liked us and we had fun so I guess it was fine.

I’ve played in an 18 wheeler, very similar setup. One side of the truck opened up and formed a sunshade. Great crowd but horrific acoustics.

Years ago we used to rehearse in a finished basement until the drummer's folks gave us the boot. They had a full size shipping container out back. Drummer asked his dad if we could use it. Dad told him if we cleaned it out. Well, we did and moved in. No air in there whatsoever, it was hell to put it mildly. The only door faced north. In Michigan the only time the wind blows from the north is winter. Sound was horrendous and we did last long there.

Worst gig was in an airplane hangar. concrete floor, metal sides and roof. All reverbs were off and kick drum and bass drum were miserable to play and plosives echoed back and forth an seemed to increase in volume. Luckily it was a big band and the bandleader conductor, change the set list to mostly horn section chorale which sounded actually nice. I can't imagine a rock band playing

This is KILLING me, my cardiologist gave me an order to lose 40 lbs in 4 months, no meat or beer. Already down 10 lbs though. BTW - Vegan fake meat pizza gave me the worst acid reflux ever!

The stage looks very interesting, meteor proof.

Over in Berlin in 2014 we played in a club made of a container called the Culture Container. Very cool gig!
