Exactly. Man, if I caught this much angst every time I viewed what seems to be a mountain of crap in the media today...
but I don't. I turn the channel (there are actual several good TV shows on that I enjoy watching) or pick up a book or go outside... because is it really worth the emotion on something I really don't like?
Nope. Of course that's my opinion and a man's gotta have a hobby so maybe that's what this is all about.
My father-in-law loves wrestling. He says he knows it's not real. I don't bug him about it, I move on. Did wrestling "fail"? Obviously not.
On a serious note: My son and I were cooking dinner last night, I turned the TV on and saw "Two and a Half Men" was on. Since I'd never actually watched a complete episode I switched to that channel. It starts with one of the creepiest theme songs I've ever heard, replete with the half man singing and sounding decidedly female. At the end of each scene, the male chorus comes in to sing a single "Men"... just in case I forgot what I was watching. I gave the punchlines to well over half of the "jokes" before they were uttered because they were so telegraphed it was way too easy. This is a very popular show with a little kid and lots of sex jokes. Lots.
Do I hate Charlie Sheen? Nope. Not even when he was rapping about poop at the elementary school. It's a very popular show and even though it's lameness is glaring to me, I know somebody must like it. So I "let" them. I can always watch Fringe on Tivo.

The female voice in that theme song belongs to singer and voice over artist Elizabeth Daily.
The target audience does not matter, when it just isn't written well joke wise or if the joke has been used so many times before. It just gets old in my opinion.

I agree. The same point was made as we dissected the latest SpongeBob Squarepants episode. The erudite panel: my 3 year old grand niece (her little brother remained largely silent), her grandmother, her grandfather (a software analyst) and myself. The target audience clearly doesn't matter. Otherwise the Proust jokes would've seemed way out of place. That Bob is such a kidder.
No doubt you're serious. It does matter who you're writing to or for. It makes all the difference in the world. How you could think otherwise is a mystery.

All the shows that you mentioned could be found guilty of doing the same old and very old jokes.

I'm mean just like a pre-CBS Fender Jazz the Pre-disney Muppets are just better but the current Muppets are fine entertaining shows
How so? Every episode? Not in the way Tyler Perry does it. To me he is just recycling older stuff and just getting a different cast to do it each time.
About the only way to not see that much of what you've listed isn't recycled is to not know what it's recycled from.
Ever seen I Love Lucy? I've seen those plots in hundreds of shows since.
That last vocal fill is just too much.
Disclaimer: this is by no means a slap on EG Daily's talent. She's been working a long time (Pee-Wee's Big Adventure anyone?). I just think on this one she forgot to stay in character.
