Thanks! It used to be a bookshelf, but now it’s my DAW workstation and rehearsal studio. It’s no substitute for gigging, but I’m still making music with my band mates, so that’s good!I love your cabinet/shelving minimalist set-up!![]()

Sweet...Please tell us about this bass and what it sounds like

Thanks for sharing all that info...Very cool bass you created ....I wonder if it sounds anything like the Fender custom shop version....even though yours looks coolerYou are too kind! Thank-you for your interest in this "build". It's not as unique or as impressive as it may look in the photos.
A one piece Warmoth ash Telecaster Bass body, fairly light @ 4 lbs 8 oz (sorry about non metric). I stained the body with black dye dissolved in denatured alcohol + 2 coats of Minwax ebony stain + 4 coats of Birchwood Casey Gun Stock Oil. I wanted open grain and I like it this way.
Allparts Tele Bass neck (MIJ), it has a round heel instead of square. I found it on eBay by accident. Warmoth's Tele Bass bodies all have round cavities. The Allparts neck is 1 and 5/8 inches wide at the nut and about .90 of an inch thick at fret #1. I like fat necks.
The Allparts neck was finished by me with Gun Stock Oil. The top side of the headstock was finished with gloss urethane (so the decal would stick) and an aftermarket decal was applied.
The controls are the same as on a 1960 Jazz Bass. Volume, Tone......Volume Tone. Concentric pots and concentric knobs. The pots and knobs are Fender and I got 'em on eBay. Schematic is from S. Duncan website but easily found on Google.
I marked out the pickguard myself........which is basically a cut down version of a standard P Bass pickguard. Pickguard material is thin and one ply.
Man, that's about it! This bass was really a low effort on my part. I didn't even sand the body before staining. I didn't want this to look like a "perfect bass".
Finally, the neck pickup is a Fralin dual coil and the bridge pickup is a Fender Super 55 dual coil. So, this bass is quiet. The pickups are humbuckers.
I am so honored in your interest in this bass! Thank-you for asking about it!
Love the look...where did you get a chrome control plate?Ummmm, Yes! My first bass I bought was in 1978...a black 1976 Fender Precision with a maple neck. As I was looking into custom building a dual pickup '54 style P bass a few years ago, this one came along on the used market. Decision was easier because of the black and maple for sentimental reasons. 2013 Fender Custom Shop P Bass Pro.
