For a while, about 25 years ago, I knew Lou Rogers, who is a country singer/player who played with Merle Haggard, George Jones, and several others. He's been based in Montana, where he currently has a studio/label. He used to come into my grandparents' shop in Idaho quite frequently, and I often talked music with him. He even gave me one of his albums and helped me with one of my guitars. A real decent guy.

Less barking, more wagging!
I have enjoyed friendships with several professional musicians, some of whom are internationally known within their respective genres. They've all been human beings; some troubled, some squared away, some utterly unremarkable in everyday life, some a giant PITA. Just like the rest of us. 
My music teacher at school is Alexis Pareja, he was the guitarist for The Number Twelve Looks Like You but he's in a jazz project now. Also if facebook friends count (ive met them in person too though) i have met Dustin Wallace from With The Punches, jammed with/sorta know Nick Sisti from Survay Says (before he was with them), and met Henry Menzel from Survay Says.

I've had the good fortune of being acquainted with a lot of semi-famous musicians over the years, but this one is the most random.
For a long time, my mom dated and lived with the father of George Lynch, guitar player of Dokken. I spent a few Christmases and Thanksgivings with the family, including George. All of us would sit around the table after dinner and play Trivial Pursuits.

Back in the late 80s I jammed once or twice (in my living room) with Matt Trippe. Matt is famous for suing Motley Crue because he claims to be the real Nikki Sixx.
My high school band director was 1st cousins with Peter Criss and Tom T. Hall is a somewhat distant cousin of mine.
My supervisor at a call center I was working at was Zak Stevens from Savatage and Circle II Circle. Cool dude, one time he orchestrated the employees singing bohemian rhapsody. The best moment I've ever had while working

My recording teacher is a sound engineer that Dolly Parton uses regularly. He's an awesome dude and a genius recording engineer.
The old jazz band teacher at the college I go to is supposedly huge in the jazz world. His name is Tom Wakeling. Cool guy, and a great teacher. His bass playing is out of this world, too.

Back when I lived in San Francisco, several of my friends had been active in the music scene there for many years (these guys are old now), so they were close with a lot of the big names there. I met and hung with many of them. But really these famous guys were friends of friends, not actually my personal buds.
i've done (drumming) sessions and pick-up gigs with a handful of people who might be recognized if you were British and had an encyclopedic knowledge of obscure bands
