Anyone on TB know any famous musicians?

I used to sell parts to Steve Perry for his yellow Corvette when I worked a Chevrolet in Van Nuys back in' 90. About a year later he was in for service, and dropped by the parts department where I was working. It was a slow day, overcast and dark. He just pops in and says" Hey Dane, how's it goin"? The other guys looked at me like "W-T-F ? I felt pretty cool the rest of the day.

Steve lives down the road from me in Del Mar. Haven't seen him in forever. I also know a guy that lives in OP - Willie Ames. Haven't seen him in forever also.....I've got a trip planned for KC in August to check a couple of guys out - I'll have to look him up.

Also, I've decided that my last two trips will be my last. I'm hanging the A&R thing up and calling it a day. Put my house on the market today - getting out of this madhouse and moving the Mrs and me back East. Just haven't decided where yet.

Damn...it feels good to say that.......:hyper:

Interesting thread. I have worked MI retail and wholesale for the last 30 years. Have met and played with famous people. From Jaco to Cliff Burton to John Entwhistle to John Pattituci. From George lynch to Gus G etc etc. I am planning on writing a book on the experiences.

But the most important thing that, IME, is they are just like you. They put their pants on the same way you do. One leg at a time. My two cents.....

I got to hang out at Les Paul's home studio for a couple of hours back in the 80's. Les was there, too, in case you were wondering.

At the time I had given up playing music entirely. I was still a couple of years removed from starting to play bass. And truthfully, I wasn't capable of comprehending just how cool that was at the time.

Also, Levon Helm played my Uncle's retirement party. I'm wondering how the hell I didn't get invited to THAT!?!?!!

I have known David T. Chastain since 1971. He was a local phenom in Atlanta vicinity..some years before he made it big in midwest and internationally, after being ' discovered' by Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records.

see: <www.leviathanrecords.com> David reached his pinnacle of success and continues today...
Nice guy..nev

I n early 1970's, I have seen him play 'Inner Mouning FLame ' as a warm-up when others could barely play Smoke on the Water.

He would have been one of the best known electric guitarists in USA , in the 'Van Halen era' but he is fiercely independent..has HIS OWN LABEL.

At least one of his bass players is a TBer.

David NEVER used drugs or alcohol..a phenominal musician, guitarist and producer.

We still stay in touch via email.

The guy who played lead for Peter Wolf, Magic Dick, et al back in the 70s and 80s lives in my horsey little town. Bought a farm and moved out here around 15 years ago to put the life behind him. The locals totally respect his privacy -- it's like an unwritten town bylaw.

We first crossed paths in the hardware store about 10 years back—I was leaving, he was coming in. Our eyes met. I looked away. When I looked back, he gave me the look that said, "OK, I know that you know who I am. Please don't approach me." I proceeded to the parking lot.

Every few months i see him at the grocery store.

Fraternity brother in college had a girlfriend who looked like Steve Perry.

They put their pants on the same way you do. One leg at a time.
This is a funny saying because I sit on the end of my bed and put my pants on both legs at the same time. Does this make me somehow special? Short bus special? Maybe...

I am not sure about "know" but I am acquaintances with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds and Boyd Tinsley. I went to college with Boyd, my college band used to play at his fraternity house. In fact, that's where I first saw Dave perform, solo. He already had about 20 swooning girls hanging on every word right there in front. I remember being extremely impressed myself. The man can write a good song!

I have to admit being flattered that Dave remembers me when we've met a few times recently, not like he knows my name, but he recognizes my face as someone from the "before time". That is, before Mick Jagger was calling him to do gigs and stuff like that. I mean we always kind of figured if Dave didn't make it then there really was something seriously wrong and broken with the music industry, but I don't think anyone was like, "Yeah he'll be jamming with Mick and Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, for sure." He's always been a decent guy to me and I think his success is completely well deserved. I feel the same way about the rest of the guys in the band, with a little bit extra for Carter (whom I've never met) and Tim (who I have been a fan of for decades).

I actually did know LeRoi, rest his soul, and had the pleasure of jamming with him in the late 90's, playing just the A part of "Chameleon" for like 15 minutes solid, lol. LeRoi was a real sweet guy and is missed by everyone who knew him.

Buddy is also featured on our CD.

If you're not familar with these guys:

Did not know him, but I had the great pleasure to meet Albert King in a bar. He happened to take a seat on the bar stool right next to me. I chatted with him for a little while, bought a drink, shook his hand.
