Anyone on TB know any famous musicians?

I have met quite a few famous musicians; but, as far as being friends with some and jamming with some, there are a few.

I jammed with David "Frankie" Toler drummer of the Gregg Allman Band, The Allman Brothers Band, & Dickey Betts & Great Southern

I am friends with Chuck Blasko of The Vogues (they had 23 hit records). My band has opened for his current group a few times as well.

I am also friends with Greg Strzempka (founder and current member) and Mark Middleton (former member) of Raging Slab.

Also, musician/songwriter/producer Kevin Salem.

Jah Wobble lives about 5 minutes down the road from me. I've bumped into him in the local park and said hi at a couple of gigs but can't claim him as one of my closest friends if I'm honest!

EDIT: I've also just remembered that the drummer in my first band was the nephew of a woman who was Lemmy's girlfriend when he lived in Stockport at some point in the 1970s.

I know and have played with the cello player for the Afghan Whigs (and lord knows who else), Barb Hunter. Doubt she's what you'd call famous, but she's played with just about everyone in Seattle over the last twenty years. She's certainly the most 'connected' musician I know.

I played bass with Led Zeppelin from '68 to '80, plus a few times since.

Seriously, I know Hunter Hayes. He used to sit in occasionally with a former band of mine before he hit the big time. Several of my musician friends know him, too.

Kind of off topic, but I'm acquainted with a musician who used to play with Lee Ann Womack. I also used to play some gigs with a guy who played bass with Patti LaBelle.

Even more off topic, I played music for Alyssa Milano's first wedding in 1999. Her "Charmed" co-stars were there. She married a guy from the now-defunct band Remy Zero. All the band members were there, too. I remember the National Enquirer was circling overhead in a plane so everybody had to go inside to continue the festivities. Pretty crazy.

I cut my teeth in the middle of the London NWOBHM/Heavy Rock scene.

It was a real 'scene' too. Everybody knew everybody.
Some of those guys are now quite 'up there.' Some are not.
Most of them weren't famous yet. Some were.

I even played football with some of them.

Haven't seen many of them for years...

20+ years ago I was dating a gal who worked at a radio station that was promoting a "Legends In Concert" event. Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, and George Jones were on the bill. I met George Jones backstage after the gig, shook his hand, and chatted a bit. Nice guy.

LOVED the taxi stories! :D

i met steve harris about that time( nwobhm) at one of his relatives parties in ARLOW. like you say everyone knew each other then. great times

Yes..lots. I like staying low key though and am not into dropping names.

But one anecdote I will drop that is just cool. My friend knows King Diamond and one night we got drunk on new years and called him in AU and wished him happy new year. It was awesomely funny, and he was a very nice dude.

Lzzy Hale and her dad played at my wedding in 2001, before they were signed. (Yes, I have a recording of it. She played Rose in December, just her voice and keys, and her dad on fretless. )

Arejay was 14 at the time, and smoked my drummer on his own kit while we were hanging out.

Good people, all of them.

I stopped by a friend's house for lunch one day. He is considerably older than me and has a nice studio here in north Delaware. He said "Vinnie" was stopping by because he was in the area.. he meant Vinnie Moore.

We talked about cats.

I was also in a backing band of a singer-songwriter friend of mine with the lady who went by the alias "Gypsy Rose" in Ritchie Blackmore's Night. She played violin.

I played several shows with the late/great Danny Toler in 2011. I didn't have much of a chance to get to know him, but he seemed very kind and gentle. We used to play All Along the Watchtower (in A minor, I sang lead on this one), and then transition into Whipping Post. It was often a 35 minute escapade (Danny plus two other guitarists plus a smoking B3 player...).

It was an honor.

I am also acquaintances with Al Holland (The Platters), and have had him sit in on multiple gigs (he is a local in my area). He's a great guy, very easy going and friendly.

I do have one 'megastar' story I think is funny:
I dated a girl in the 80s who rented a room from Spike Edney (lovely bloke).
One night the phone rang and I was asked to answer it.
A girl's voice asked for Spike. "I'm sorry, he's not here. Can I take a message?"
"I'll call back. Tell him Roger called. "

Roger Taylor.
