Anyone tuning at 432hz?

I’m surprised no one has questioned, why? The band needs to be tuned to itself to avoid sounding bad. Some bands use std tuning, some prefer to drop a half step (sometimes more) but they *still need to be tuned to each other*.

AC/DC can be a bitch to learn sometimes because they are infamous for not being in std. Not on purpose mind you, but simply because Malcolm was tuned slightly different for a specific recording and everyone tuned to him. Or so the story goes.

Prior to the days of affordable and accurate tuners when bands mostly tuned to themselves, I probably did more often than I knew.

Outside of some early music ensembles I’ve been in that used period correct instruments however, I’ve pretty much stayed with A=440 tuning. And these days most times it’s with a little instrument specific sweetening added.

I’ve tried A=432 for awhile and didn’t notice it really changed things up all that much. Sounded better with some songs, and (not surprisingly) not as good as standard tuning on others. So to me it was more an exercise in satisfying my own curiosity rather than the epiphany some people experience while exploring it.

But maybe that’s because I listen to a lot of different music from different ages and parts of the world where our current Western tuning standards and music theory doesn’t hold sway. So my ears aren’t as locked into hearing things as being “correct” as they’d otherwise might be.

IMO everybody should give the A=432 thing a try and form their own opinion about it as well as some of the mumbo-jumbo and ‘woo!’ surrounding it.

I’d suggest checking it out if for no other reason than to expand your musical horizons. That’s always effort well spent. :)
I would probably do this if I were willing to deal with the PITA it would present in terms of literally not syncing up with almost every recording and piano and random instrumentalist out there that I might be called upon to play with. But I don't think the juice would be worth the squeeze for the stuff that I do. However, if you're playing originals with one group of people on electronic instruments only, and you don't care about being in sync with anything other than yourselves, could be an interesting experiment.
 
I tuned to 432hz and a vortex opened above me and I was filled with peace and joy like nothing I've ever experienced before.

If you look at the Rick Beato video a few posts earlier, he points out that there wasn't even a way to measure Hertz or cycles per second, or even seconds, until relatively recently in terms of music history. The standard was agreed upon because, well, standards are useful. Imagine being in an orchestra with a bunch of players who all have their own idea about the perfect way to tune. Personally I don't think there's a universally correct harmonic that has some mystical advantage over the standard, but to each their own, as long as that works for them.

According to me and more importantly every music historian who's not high.

No hz standard is more in tune with the earth. There is no conspiracy theory or mystical crystal crap involved.

There are tons of reasons for different tuning standards through history, mostly related to advances in orchestral string technology, competition between orchestras and increasing sizes of concert halls.

The international standard was established as 435 in the Treaty of Versailles at the end of WWI, then modified to 440 in 1955.

Standard is to tune to A = 440hz, but there are several voices saying that we should be tuning to 432hz as was done in the past, to sync all harmonics to the base earth frequency of 8hz.
If anyone is doing it, have you felt any difference? Do you know availabe tuners in the market to tune at 432?

For one band I do, it definitely changes the feel of the songs.

It has nothing to do with “the tuning of the earth” or Nazis though.

A ton of music from Pantera to oldies is tuned that way, all the people talking mess about it every time this topic comes up make me laugh just as hard as the conspiracy theories ;)

This. In the later nineteenth and early twentieth centuries there was *no* standard tuning, which could wreak havoc in wind bands sporting instruments from different manufacturers. Some brands just could not be made to play in tune with the others.

And even though most makers quickly adapted to the "new" standard of 440 (low pitch), the Salvation Army made their horns in high pitch right up into 1968.

For practicing along with cover songs that aren't tuned to the current standard A4=440 Hz, I run them through Waves' "SoundShifter Pitch" plugin in my DAW, tune them using a pure sine wave sound module, and bounce them to a "corrected" copy of the song.

I also do this with songs that are 1/2-step down-tuned, like SRV songs. As long as I don't move transpose it more than a whole-step, it still sound good enough to practice with. We might actually play these down-tuned, but I play a 4-string, and don't feel like re-tuning or using the pitch drop on my HX Stomp for quiet practice.

I keep track of the tunes I modify like this. Out of approximately 230 songs in my covers repertoire: 12 are incorrectly tuned (but there's only one Beatles song on the list, and "Drive My Car" is in D Major tuned to A440), 20 are drop-tuned, and there are 6 that we chose to transpose for vocal purposes.
