Anyone tuning at 432hz?

This is a very complete article on the history, there was no time such as when people tuned like they did in Atlantis (which was Santorina volcanic atoll) History of Pitch - The Diapason Normal
The theory is absurd, it's as if you were playing in a ship (large cruise ship) and someone said all the songs have to be tuned to the motor pitch. Obviously zones of audible pitch have no contact from any resonant frequency of the earth which would be very very low. (So this all goes in the file for Search For The Brown Note in the Church Of The Sub Genuis)

Only a few mystical pitch theorists are fascist order worshipers, but they did exist in the 20s and 30s in the mystical cults that were supposedly throwbacks to an enlightened era (that didn't exist either).

I'm always curious as to the source of information saying musicians used to tune to 432 in some mythical time long, long ago. If anything they tuned above 440; a little simple research would show that, before the standard hertz rate was set (440hz), soloists would be known to tune their instruments higher than their peers in an attempt to sound brighter. Eventually pitches began raising so much and becoming so sporadic from musician to musician, region to region that a standard needed to be formed for the ever growing and connecting world we live on.

Don’t know where the 432 Hz thing originated. But during the Baroque period, A was often set considerably lower, going as low as 380 Hz in some instances. Consensus among musicologists is that for today’s purposes, the Baroque A works best for period instruments when standardized at 415 Hz - or about a half step down from today’s concert A.

When I was playing that sort of thing in an early music ensemble we always tuned down a half or full step below today’s standard. Gut stringed instruments generally sound better tuned lower.

Oh even my story about being in a ship and tuning to the pitch of the motor? What if the kid is out mowing the lawn and that lawnmower has a constant C# note and that works with your E but really songs in C# just Work better until the lawnmower his a clump of leaves and grass and the pitch raises up from the strain, that's how we get the Blues.
 
I should have asked ‘Could I even tell’? Yea, as a piano tuner, you’re better than the average bear in that regard.

Anyway, I went to this tone gen site, and the diff is pretty obvious even to me. I was just trying to convert the difference to cents.

As I noted in my other post on this subject as a Westerner with A 440 Hz and 12 tonal ingrained on our senses 432 Hz just feels off, for some it can even have a physical, emotional or psychological effect.

That’s approx -100 cents, or 1 semitone as mentioned. That’s 1 fret flat. Pretty easy to simulate.

Regarding cents, I stand corrected. I just researched that 440 to 432 is -31 cents, or approx 1/3 of a semi tone. Hard to simulate 1/3 of a fret flat.

Well I don’t know if you’re arriving at 432 hz by subtracting the earth’s magnetic frequency of 7.83 hz from 440 and getting to 432 hz that way. I do know that tuning has gone from 415 hz in the Baroque to as high as 443 currently in some European orchestras. My own theory has to do with instrument evolution. Lutes and early violins used gut for strings and could only take so much tension before breaking. If you’ve ever heard a period performance of say any of Bach’s orchestral suites utilizing recreations of period correct baroque instruments, the tuning in 415 and unequal temperament makes Bach’s Orchestral suites sound sweet and slightly out of tune. Specifically, the recording I refer to is The English Concert led by Trevor Pinnock on Archiv recorded in 1978 of Bach’s orchestral suites Bwv 1066,1068. As time went on, gut fell out of favor and tuning of anything with strings which were now steel, could be done at higher tensions resulting in a glassier sound and higher and higher hzs. Other instruments such as flutes followed the trend in stringed instruments. Earth’s frequency, I doubt had anything to do with it.

The Earth's frequency was measured at 7.83 Hz, but I've seen a number of articles talking about how it has since been measured it at higher frequencies (11+ Hz). Some say it is just generally variable, some say on average it is increasing slowly but with some spikes, some deny any variation.

If you want to tie the tuning of your musical instruments to something like this you can basically pick any frequency you like and then find a matching junk science article to justify your decision.

This is what happens when neo-hippies try to use science.

Didn't know that, so I went on for a little research. Article 282 of the Treaty of Versailles, point 22:

If I understand correctly, it was first decided at the 1885 Convention, and later re-established by the Treaty of Versailles (is that it?).

More or less. It's complicated and messy.

Some countries would agree, then others wouldn't. Or they would agree and then not comply. After the Treaty of Versailles established it at 435 orchestras in England cheated by using the standardized 435 tuning fork but at a non-standard temperature to achieve the higher 440 tuning they wanted to use.

Then before long WWII happened and people had more important things to worry about than what orchestras were tuning to and eventually 440 was agreed upon in 1955.

More fun facts: Audiences didn't really notice regional differences in tuning until the advent of radio and phonograph let them compare one orchestra to another. And there would sometimes be tuning tones broadcast over the radio in various countries to help orchestras tune to the national standard, whether or not that matched up to the international standard.
 
Standard is to tune to A = 440hz, but there are several voices saying that we should be tuning to 432hz as was done in the past, to sync all harmonics to the base earth frequency of 8hz.
If anyone is doing it, have you felt any difference? Do you know availabe tuners in the market to tune at 432?
