Anyone Using Only Micros Now?

I guess I was one of the first Markbass buyers in Germany nearly 15 years ago. Never looked back. Gear that weighs more or is larger doesn't exist for me, I just completey ignore it. I wanna play, not schlepp. My hands are those of an artist, I don't schlepp. I wouldn't take an SVT for free (o.k. if it is bundled with an SUV, a driver and 3 rowdies I might reconsider).

Since i live in 4th floor walkup with shallow stairways and a tiny landing, little else makes sense. Plus i Like having the option of going to a gig (when it's straight after work there's no other choice, basically) by public transport and be able to bring some of my own gear.

There are a few players here who swear by a Rb1001, and who will always bring their own cab too. If you live in the city you'll need a storage/practice space with 24/7 access and bear the headache of owning a car in NYC.

That said, nothing beats an amp with a tube end stage (I never played a SS with a tube-equipped preamp that I llked.)

My last two heads have both been small class D. Beyond the convenience of a 5 lbs head, in the same price range, its hard to beat the power. If I was a touring musician that was playing large venues and had a road crew loading my stuff in and out of a truck every night, I might worry about the ruggedness of a small class D. For a local musician that moves his own stuff once a week, it's perfect.
I have nothing against big tube amps, but I can't validate the cost and I won't get that much of a difference out of it live.

for that one trip transport , "Rock N Roller R6RT Multi-Cart 8-in-1 Equipment " 500lb max

Have an Ampeg Micro VR & GK MB500 and a Hartke 112. Ampeg + The Hartke run at 4ohm is perfect for rehearsals or small gigs. MB500 + 2 Cabs for anything that requires more power. I run direct most of the time anyway so I'm not in need of a lot of power seeing that the amp is mostly for feel/monitoring.

No , I still use my Mesa Big Block 750 and do not see myself needing or wanting a different amp . I also use a JBL 18 " full range speaker in a large box . The same one they use in the Vertex Line arrays(2241 VGC series ) . I like my unique tone .
About three years ago I tried an Ampeg micro amp with a 4-10 cab and was very impressed with the tone . Very cool this modern technology . I thought hmmm maybe I should get a new trendy light weight girlfriend that simulates my wife and new trendy lightweight micro amp that simulates a coliseum rig and I could be this new trendy bass guy that other bassists envied . But then I realized my life was just fine the way it was and that I really did not need any of that.
Last night I was listening to some older Jethro Tull albums . Heavy Horses and Songs from the Wood . I liked the bass tone on that stuff .

Your 2241 is not a full range driver, nor is it used in the Vertec series. It's an older sub driver, it's very dark tone may suit you just fine.

I've done the opposite. I've got a micro, I've gigged it maybe twice in the ~5 years I've had it. I prefer carry my big heavy tube amps to every gig. Certainly shrunk my cabs though...

+1
My cab of choice these days for small venues is an Ampeg 212 AV, sounds great with an SVT and easy load in/out. Here's a photo someone took from last weekend:

I mostly use the smaller, lightweight stuff these days, but I still own three Mesa PH cabs, my Carbines and an old SWR amp. It's not an issue of the micro gear not being reliable or sounding great, I just occasionally like spending time with the older technology, heavy stuff.

If pressed to down-select to just a few heads and amps, it would all be the new micro, lightweight equipment - Mesa 112/115 and Bergantino CN212 for cabs, Mesa D-800 and Walkabout, Aguilar TH500 and GK MB800 for heads. These are my typical "go to" products these days.

I've slowly downsized over the years. 15 years ago, I was gigging with an Ampeg 810 and a 16-space rolling road rack with two Ampeg SVP-Pro preamps, and two Crown CE2000 amps (I like having backups). 8-9 years ago I transitioned to two SWR Goliath II 410s and a 4 space rack with a SansAmp RBI and Stewart World 1.6 amp.

Now, I'm down to a GB Streamliner 900 and two Schroeder 1212L cabs. Wouldn't trade my current rig for any of the past ones. Absolutely love the tone and portability.
