Are Landing basses THAT good?

Just got this one back from Jimmy. It was in for a few tweaks and a string retainer upgrade. The bass is amazing but even more amazing is Jimmy's customer service. I've dealt with custom builders a time or two over the years but have never received better service, especially since I'm not the original owner. He truly stands behind his instruments and provides service that you're unlikely to find elsewhere.

It was a lucky snag to be sure. For some reason I got a wild hair one day and searched for Landing basses on ebay. There it was at a price I couldn't refuse, far less than it went for on TB. It showed up in terrible shape setup-wise but Jimmy offered to put it right if I covered shipping. He even updated the string retainers and replaced the old larger logo with the new one and refinished the headstock. Now she's tip-top and I couldn't be happier with it. Amazing service and a nice guy to boot.

I've had nothing but great experience with Jimmy's Customer service. He even sold me a case for my Mustang which he doesn't normally do (and it was really cheap). Even when it looked like we weren't going to get a Dark Star from Fred Jimmy was good to offer alternatives and listened to my ideas no matter how crazy they were. I just got my Mustang back from him. If the work he did to my bass is any indication of how good his basses are, you are in for a real treat. He got the action so low on my bass it practically plays itself. the bass side of the E saddle is right down to the bridge plate.

I see Jimmy is installing the DS's with the pole pieces up towards the neck now
I've sent him an email about that a few weeks ago but have not gotten a reply yet. The DSs' on mine have the pole pieces towards the bridge.....I wonder if it makes a difference in tone?

If you have enough lead on the pickup wires, and the route is done with this in mind;
the Darkstar can easily be rotated 180 degrees.
It is indeed a big enough difference to hear, and I do have a preference for both the basses I have one in.
