Are Landing basses THAT good?

Well, actually, it did take a bit longer as we had some problems getting the Dark Stars (Hammon was overloaded with requests at that time - 2 years ago). And at that time Jimmy was innondated with orders. Also, the first bass Jimmy built was too heavy so he sold it to someone else (it took 2 days) and he built another one with sound chambers to lessen the weight. I have a bad back so I had requested a bass that weighed around 6 lbs. and the first one was over 7 lbs. The pups took a while to get there again and we had a little problem with the pickguard (Crockodial) but another piece was found and we got the pickguard. So all in all it took about 1 year but I was very happy with the result....It's a very well made instrument, nice and fast neck, the finish is great (like a mirror) and it sounds really nice. 2 Dark Stars and passive electronics. Electronic cavity is very well shielded - I didn't open it but it's a really quiet bass, no hums or hissing......I really like it, it's become my go to bass at home and back up at gigs. I'm having another custom bass built, I should have it this weekend but this one is from a Luthier just down the road from me in Surrey, B.C. so I'll probably be posting some stuff from that one within a week or two.....

I'll get a photo of the Landing asap-there is a photo of my Landing on Jimmy's website. It's the LDS2 white with 2 Dark Stars and a crocodial pickguard....although the photo is the first one Jimmy built me, mine is just the same but lighter

One of the best things about those landing basses is the Strat jack. I don't know why they aren't on more basses. I had one included on my custom short scale:

I talked to him some while a go about making a bass. I asked if he could make a slightly different neck (a narrower nut to be precise) but he gave me the strong impression he didn't like to deviate from his standard models - so I never went ahead with it in the end.

Yeah, I get the impression he does not do totally custom work, but will make changes to his standard models. My tele bass is definitely something different for him. Seems to me that its not something he'll do on a regular basis.

He wouldn't change the neck for me either but I decided to go with it anyway. I might have another neck (smaller) made by Kevin Fast later on.....

To me black hardware is almost always the way to go. I am even requesting black screws.

The hipshot A bridge can be brass that is painted black. That is what I have on my Stambaugh and its what I want on my tele bass.

Pretty sure the brass is chromed out. I know that the LowEnd Jazz basses sometimes come with brass bridges which are chromed.

Edit: Hey, I just realized I made a pretty bad hijack faux pas. Is this OK with you? 'Cuz I can move it out :)

This is a picture of a burst with blacked out hardware that mine will look like but with jazz pickups.

Or do you think I should just go chrome? (Just imagine this with rosewood fretboard and black pickguard.)

I think BASSIST is right. The blacked out hardware just looks bada$$! The chrome hardware looks very vintage correct in a classic way. Hmmm. Decisions...
