Are the new Darkglass neo cabs really...

The general consensus from my friends who have played them is that they are ok but there are better cabs for less available. Most seem to prefer the Schroeder, Mesa, and Bergantino offerings in comparison.

I have the Berg NV212T and love it. Great sealed cab and probably my favorite cab I've played through. Definitely not the loudest though. The HDN's and NXT's are super pricy though and I'm after a 4ohm ported 212 that I can just leave at the space, has a little more output than the NV212, and take out on the occasional gig. Sweetwater has demo/used DG N212 for $829 which seems like a good deal. Sent me searching for reviews etc and didn't really find much. Still may give it go but also found a super clean Aguilar DB212 today as well for a little less $$ and no tax. My guess is the DG is maybe a bit more efficient but can't find the sensitivity ratings for them.

Looking for a new 212 4ohm cab and was really surprised by the lack of info other than the specs on the DG NE series.

Don't think I've seen a launch of a new product line that months after the release has no audio or video demos out there. At least that I can find anyway. It's almost like DG themselves is embarrassed by them? Not really any chatter to speak of in the DG Users club. So far I've seen 2 people post that they've bought one.

So are they garbage? Or are they so good that people can't stop playing them long enough to record examples and a review? Or just meh and not worth talking about? Or have I just somehow been unable to find the reviews and audio examples?

Did anyone release a new cab at NAMM that already has a ton of reviews and audio samples everywhere?

Even the new Bergantino NXT, which won a best in show award, doesn't have reviews and sound clips up everywhere.

Probably because they came out in late January, and the world got turned upside down by mid March.

LOL...There's more posted on the NXT's by you alone then on the DG's in total. Add in the in depth tests John Fox did and you know you're wrong without even accounting for user feedback on the NXTs. There's a five page thread outside of the Berg club though half of it or more devolved into people complaining about videos with fuzz. There's a definite buzz on the NXTs...not so much on the DG's

That thread is a Berg press release, I don't recall seeing one for the DG cabs but I may have missed it.

Glad I could do my part in letting people know how good the NXT cabs are, but I hardly think that the personal pages of John and myself qualify as "everywhere".

That's really my point.

Bergantino happens to have an artist and a dealer who have gone out of their way to create a lot of content for the cabs: that's the exception, not the rule.

Again you've gone from me saying DG cab reviews are relatively nowhere to be found to assuming that it means other's reviews are "everywhere" which I never said. They are however much easier to find from a simple search.

As far as the release.... DG and Berg are the only two higher profile companies to release cabinets this year that I know of. I'm sure there are other brands that released something but aren't brands on my radar which is also why I didn't ask about brand X's cabinets and also wasn't researching them. I asked about Darkglass and it wasn't honestly on my radar until I found the demo 212 on Sweetwater for $829. I'd consider DG & Berg to be in the same profile pool as Aguilar, Mesa, Ampeg, etc. with DG probably being much more of a household name than Berg outside of the TB community. I've never had a problem finding plenty of info on the aforementioned brands whether it's in the form of user experience, youtube reviews, or reviews from publications when they have released cabinets. There's typically a wave of brand loyalists and early adopters anticipating a release from these companies and just doesn't seem to be the case with DG's cabinets.

The problem has been just a lack of info on the cabs. Aside from the first promo video from Darkglass there's been nothing on this site aside from some recent reviews, and nothing searchable on the net. I think people are simply anxious to hear about the cabs. I personally am not pointing fingers at anyone and while I would love a 1 cab solution, it isn't likely that I'm going to sell my 2 410's to get a new cab. It'd be cool to see something that blew me away though.

Why would brand loyalists be a problem? Every brand has its loyalists and that's a good thing. DG certainly doesn't have a lack of them. Usually you get large amounts of them hyping a new launch and snatching up the latest and greatest from that company.... thus creating a buzz and searchable info etc. Hasn't really happened with their cabs for whatever reason...yet. But you'll find brand loyalists and early adopters across all types of products from golf clubs to cars to sneakers. In marketing you count on them to a certain degree to help lead the charge. Take the aforementioned brand Bergantino...Jim announces a new product and Club Bergantino loses their minds and start fainting like the Beatles just walked by. They start asking back and forth about every detail. The buzz starts there. It's a beautiful thing and particularly so if you run a company or a marketing department. Don't mistake brand loyalists for blind sheep. That is not my view of them. They know why they are loyal to the brand and have seen repeated performance and results and typically articulate that very well.

I still use DG and Neural stuff regularly, I've just been focusing on creating content for Berg the last few months because they're still a smaller brand.

I'm all about supporting companies who's gear makes my life as a musician easier and more enjoyable.

I explained why that is in my initial reply: much of the world is essentially on hold right now.

They debuted in late January at NAMM but likely weren't ready to start shipping yet, most things debuting at NAMM don't actually start shipping until March or April, and the entirety of Europe locked itself down in March.

Cab sounds nice and articulate. Really demonstrates the difference between the GK and DG heads! Nice looking bass too.

I can't speak to their quality - they are probably lovely cabs. My guess is its brand recognition. DG priced at a point where I can get (reasonably) comparable cabinets form a loner-standing, more familiar brand e.g. Mesa, etc. This also plays into resale value which of course is a major factor for many buyers. People tend ro chose what hey know, es[ecially in times of uncertainty.

So, mine came in on Wednesday, and I would have to say.. Yes, I can't stop playing it long enough to review.

It sounds better than the GK and Ampeg SVT 410 cabs I've owned. Super tight and clear. I can't believe the bottom end out of something so light!!

I will try and get some sound samples this weekend. I currently use the Darkglass Microtubes 900, and Mesa WD-800 for my amps. Both work great with this cab.

Do we need yet another high priced cab manufacturer?? Who's buying this stuff anyway? Most pros have rigs provided for them per riders and it's typically Ampeg, GK, Eden, maybe Markbass. I've yet to see a Darkglass rig or any of the other high priced rigs (i.e. Bergantino, Eich, Puma, etc) anywhere except here and on paper.

It's not a new company. But the cab thing is new. I think most have got a general idea. Likewise understand the original post. And the confusion and frustration that can lead to interpretation which is negative.
Most musicians are moody. Without directly saying it. What we have done most are lives. Has been taking away.
Technically not, but still illegal to do what we do indirectly.

Far as the cabs, if price range meets the quality of the drivers. Most likely , since most amps are rather high powered these days. It's a good looking cab. I'm not sure what most people like. But most the market is dead ugly. The DG cabs are better asthectic all around. I don't really question quality. Drivers are straight forward. It's harder to find something that isn't ugly and pay ridiculous money for ugly.
Go for it, personally even quality demos do nothing for me. It's some random dude playing the usual Scooby Doo noodles.
I wanna hear loud band mixes. I can do that with anything with enough speakers. Rock n roll is rock n roll. Buy them , be happy
