Definitely that guy... I don't like playing regular stuff. It just doesn't feel right for me. I love having the weird poopie that people don't recognize. Plus I customize all my instruments, so they're even more different...

I've shown up to some auditions and band practices with instruments and the band members get weird. I had a metal band that didn't want me to play a Steinberger. They didn't like how it looked. I told them it sounded great and if they didn't like it they could find a new bass player... because that's a stupid qualifier.

I was just checking out a site offering resonator parts - I'll post it if I find it again. The Gold Tone banjo bass is moderately loud acoustically, but the E isn't very good, I'm thinking it has to do with my converting it (a lefty) to a righty by flipping the bridge and nut and restringing. Mean to get a proper righty bridge for it. But where it really shines is plugged in - again, still not quite happy with the E, but it does a very good upright imitation plugged in.

I've already looked at both sites, had a conversation with Elderly. Both have the same problem. They have some parts in some some sizes, but not all the parts I need to do this project. To do this project the way I want to, I need a fairly small resonator (9" or less). Both Elderly and Resophonic Outfitters have cones in the right size, but no cover plates or mounting rings in those sizes. You are familiar with the structure of a AE-40. Sound wells just won't work on a curved back, so an open design is necessary (and it's what I want anyway). I've looked at ebay several times and run into the same problems. It's been real frustrating. What is the scale length on the Gold Tone? Hmmm....................
