Argument in store over used bass

So I pull it out plug it in and start playing.As I'm playing I see another bass standing behind two others I wanted to try.I literally get up set the T-bird against the amp,still plugged in,amp still on and move one of the guitars.I'm talking I was maybe 4-5ft away from the T-bird.

That's when captain dbag comes up behind me picks up the T-bird and says "$89 oh this is coming home with me."

So I turn to the guy and say "What are you doing? I'm playing that."

Then the argument ensues.I reached out and grabbed it.So now me a dbag are both holding onto the T-bird.Sales guy hears us and walks over and ask if there is a problem.

I explain while still holding on to the neck that I was playing it and had set it down,still plugged in,amp still on and took 3 steps,moved one bass trying to get to another that I wanted to try and dbag walked up and grabbed the T-bird saying he was gonna get it.

Dbag said he walked up and it was just sitting there.Which is even more bs cause the store I was in all the bass amps and basses are all on one aisle and its a dead end aisle of which I at the end.So there is no way dbag couldn't have saw me with it or lean it against the amp.

So sales dude ask us if we needed the manager.Me and dbag argued back and forth a few times and sales guy walked off,I'm assuming to get the manager.Second or two after he did dbag let go of the bass and was like "Man I don't even need that pos." and let go and walked off.

I could understand if I would have set it on the amp and walked to another aisle or even the end of the aisle but literally I just took my hands off and stepped 3ft so I could move two basses that were I front of another that I wanted to try.

There is no entitlement involved.I know I don't own anything in the store until I pay for it but at the same time ppl should be decent humans and use a little common sense/courtesy.Guy was a dbag.If I wouldn't have said anything he would have walked out with a bass that I had been playing/testing out for the last 20mins.

Then after he picked it up and made his comment and I told him I wasn't done with it,that's really when the situation went down hill.When he started smarting off.I'll go ahead and say it,if he wouldn't have acted like he did after I told him I wasn't finished it might not have been that bad.Once the dbag started smarting off it wasn't as much about the bass anymore as it was about his attitude.

As for the fellow that bought the chorus pedal after the first guy left the store, that's perfectly understandable, unless the salmon promise the first guy that he'd hold the pedal. Then it's the salesman's fault.

As soon as you put it down and reach for another instrument, it's fair game.

That said, it would have been a small measure of manners for the other guy to ask "Are you done with this?", at which point you have to poopie or get off the pot. He doesn't have to ask you, mind you, but he could have. A little common courtesy goes a long way to clearing up these problems, but in this scenario, neither of you is obligated to use it.

I wouldn't be so quick to point fingers at anyone else and call them dbag, though, when you're both equally right/wrong in this case.

congrats on the new bass but I still think you were in the wrong you set it down and d bag decided he wanted it. if you find a deal like that in a store you grab that thing and pay for it right away otherwise anyone can just grab it....

Items in music stores are "fair game" whether you are holding them or not. Many stores put their inventory for sale online. I once had a bass at GC that sold online WHILE I WAS PLAYING IT. The salesman came up to me, very politely told me I could play it for as long as I liked, but when I was finished, it had been sold to a customer on the internet. It didn't matter that I was playing it. It mattered that it was for sale and someone else bought it.

You just paid for an Epiphone T-bird; these basses suck, even for $89. Even Gibson T-Birds suck; T-Birds are categorically the last bass I would ever buy.

The manager should have offered to cut the bass in half, pricing each half at $45. That would sort out who the REAL owner is quite quickly.

Wow pretty blown away by most of the responses on here. I get it, the OP left the bass plugged in leaning against the amp he was using as he went to go grab another bass to A/B with. To me, that bass is still in use, and its on "dbag" to ask you if you're done with it before trying to claim it. Do none of us have any manners? Has the black friday mentality consumed all of our minds? Whats mine is mine so shag you? I would never think of grabbing at a bass someone may still be playing without asking. However, anyone who's done with a bass and just leaves it plugged in leaning against an amp would be the "dbag" in my mind. But to me, the OP was in the right. If thats the case, he might as well have pulled it from your hands and said, "well, you didnt buy it yet so its mine!". Just my .02....

So, you're saying that if I grab 2 basses & sit down with them, plug 1 in & try it out, put it down & grab the other, some other dude can come up & grab the one I put down while I'm in the middle of comparing the 2? That's a load of bull.

You're one of those guys who goes ruthless during Black Friday sales, aren't you? No courtesy at all for anyone else in the store.

I've never fought for an item or grabbed something someone else was looking at at all.

I'm just not so entitled or selfish to think that because I tried something or wanted something that it's mine.
