Aria & Aria Pro II Club

Hi guys, I bought this bass a few weeks back, purely on its tone and feel, without a care about its heritage. However after having a few weeks, im more interested in its history and when i do a search, i can only find the smallest bits of info.

It is a AVB-50 from what i have found out, although on the headstock it only says AVB.

It has a double Humbucking pickup and is fully active.

Does anyone know if these are still being made, or if they are rare or anything else they may know about it.

It seems like they're still being made...I don't think there *is* much of a history to those yet! :) Where did you buy it and what was the price, anyway?

I paid £225 for it, the guy originally wanted £245 but i spotted a knock on the head stock so i got it cheaper.

I got it off a dealer in Colchester.

The reason I ask is that I can never find them on ebay, or shops sites so feel like the bass has dropped of the face of the earth.

I think i have worked out it is part of the Avante series however. Thats a start!

Can anyone tell me exactly what model my bass is? I have always thought it was an sb 900 fom early 80's but because of the position markers i think it could be something else. serial is 4013280.

It is nearly the same as an sb 900 except for funny position markers..here are a couple more photies...click to enlarge.

A family member has been hiding from me, the fact that they have had a bass sitting in a warehouse for the better part of 30 years. He's in the process of tossing out a lot of his stuff and asked me if I wanted his "guitar" and amp... I, like anyone immediately said yes!
I picked it up on Saturday and have been pouring over TalkBass and other sites to determin what I have.
It's definately an Aria, it is shaped like a a Gibson ES335 guitar, hollow body, floating bridge, twin pick-ups, a single volume and tone nob and a pup selector located on the lower horn.
The neck plate say Made in Japan, has a serial number on both the neck plate as well as a number engraved at the base of the neck, on the finger board. The two serial numbers do not match.
There was obviously a pick guard at one point, the metal frame is still there, but no pick guard. It's in it's original case and has pretty high action. I changed the strings from what were most likely original or close to flats and put one some round wounds I had laying around.
The neck on this thing is very thing and for me very quick. I like the tone un-plugged and enjoy the fact that I can walk around the house with it and don't require an amp to here what I'm doing!
After reading this entire thread, I did not see one bass that looks like what I have... but after checking out some of the links I found on this thread, the closest I have been able to find is the Aria 5120... the only noticeable difference being that model has two volume and tone knobs.
I tried plugging it into my amp... there is defiantely a bad connection at the jack, but it still works... or should I say it did work until I tried to unscrew the input jack... there is no room to work on the inside of this bass and it has no access plates on it.
So... I'm considering taking it in to be set up properly and have the electronics looked at... but I wonder if I'm gonna be spending more money on it getting it working than what it's actually worth? I guess regardless, it's gonna get done.
I have no idea how to post pics... I'll try and get some tonight and get them up!
BTW - the amp he gave me is a 175 watt Traynor head and cabinet, twin 15 inch woofers! The serial number on the head is a four digit number!!!! Oh... and I plugged it in and it works like a charm!

Well, I had one of the guys here at work give me a hand, I hope this works!
As mentioned in my earlier post, here are the pics of the bass I got free on the weekend. What can anyone tell me about it? I've done some research, I believe it looks like an Aria 5120, but it's not exactly the same.
I an debating on whether to spend some money on it to get it up to playable standards... what are your thoughts?
