Can anyone tell me exactly what model my bass is? I have always thought it was an sb 900 fom early 80's but because of the position markers i think it could be something else. serial is 4013280.

Hi Pudie - I'm pretty sure your bass is an SB ELITE II, judging from the serial no (first number indicates year) it was made in 1984. It's very similar to the SB-R80 but has gold hardware and also both pickups are positioned slightly closer to the bridge on the SB Elite II compared to the SB-R80.

I've garnered some more info on my Aria, posted back a couple of pages... it was purchased new by a family member, back in either 1969 or 70.
I have since taken it in to "The Twelfth Fret" here in Toronto, to get it set up properly and have the wiring checked for loose wires etc... as it is making an un-godly crackeling sound when plugged in.
Dude at the shop couldn't put it down once I showed him... not because of the quality of the instrument per se, but because of the condition it is in. It still has the original foam damper on the bridge!
So, I'm having the wiring checked, a shim put in the neck in order to bring the action down, a new bone nut, a complete set up and I should be good to go!
When I get'er back in a few weeks, I'll post some more pics, hopefully of better quality then the one's a couple of pages back.

Does anyone know where to get replacements knobs for an original SB900.
Replaced mine many years ago & now want to put the originals back.

no routing necessary, but i did have to use the 5-string pickups to fit the original routing. replaced all wiring and pots, too.

Not really up on Aria history but I just picked this up at a pawnshop... the oldest Aria I've seen so far:

I got one like that but with 2 pickups. I saw a bass like that in another tread and the brand is Kingston There is no logo on mine when I bought it so I never be able to find information about my bass. Mine is refinished in lake placid blue. Paid 26$ in a pawn shop. Add a new nut (2$), rewired the pickups and let it to a car body shop for a refinished (50$). It's my only bass for the moment.

i got three of them: SBR 80 natural wood, SBR 900 black and gold and Thorsound cherry red sbr 400 and they sound awesome!
My main bass for live shows is the SBR 80 i used that monster sound along my DOD overdrive...I purchased the SBR 900 about a week a go from a good friend...can't believe he sold to me that beauty!!!

I got it real cheap at GC, and while it was very nice, I never got attached to the combination of the small body and 32" scale. I prefer either a traditional short scale with a smaller body OR a regular long scale instrument. I saw an ad on HC from a girl that was specifically looking for a med scale bass. When opportunity knocks...

Yesterday I won an Ebay auction for something I've been wanting for a long time - a Mosrite copy. Most copies are Univox, which I like, but this one is an "Aria Diamond", which is a totally new one on me. it's a project that will need pickups and other pieces as well as a refin, but I'm excited at the prospect.

The headstock is natural finish, and I would rather not mess with it. I'd like to leave the original decal intact. The body wood looks pretty decent, so I may go with a natural finish. Natural would look good with the pickguard material. Any opinions? And does anyone know more about the Aria Diamond basses???

Thanks. I'd rather have bought it 20 bucks cheaper, but at the last minute I manned up and went for it. Given the prices that Univox Hi-Flyer copies are bringing (there's a nice clean one on Ebay now at $192 with 4 hours left) I figured this is probably the cheapest way I can get one. I'm also thinking that given Aria and Matsumoku's reputation, this ought to be a good body and neck.

The headstock looks nice and clean, so if it's really that good, it will be VERY tempting to refin in clear with the body stained just enough to match the headstock. Also, clear refin materials won't cost that much...of course, the trick is in the prep, not the finish coat.

I don't think that it will be hard to find suitable pickups for that bass...but I'll start watching for some Hi-Flyer pickups. Once I can measure the PU cavities I'll have a better idea what I can use in it.

Sorry I can't help with yours - I've never seen that model before, although it looks like its mom was scared by a Steinberger.
