As I Lay Dying Singer Tim Lambesis Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Plot

Yeah, I agree that his religion is irrelevant to the story. It's just kinda thrown in there. Doesn't seem to me that it has any bearing on why he would do this or what his motivation was. Unless the author was saying, " nah nah a boo boo stick your head in doo doo, Christians are bad too".

I think they mentioned it because he's so outspoken about his religion.

Still, it really doesn't matter. Many people who are very outspoken about their faith do so as a smoke screen instead of sincere devotion. Bad people are just bad people regardless of what they believe, anyway.

Now, if this stigmatizes his music - well that would be just fine with me.

it's cool, it's hip, it's in to bash Christianity and Christians themselves. Just look here on TB the bashing of Christianity and Christians goes unchecked in all instances but any other religions or balking at atheism will leave you feeling the sting of infraction points.

Very true on most counts. It's hip for the stylish and trendy A-Christians(those who pretend to be Atheists and scream Science everywhere, but only bash Christians). As for the Mods here...:thumbdown::thumbup::thumbdown::thumbup::thumbdown::thumbup::thumbdown::thumbup::thumbdown::thumbup::thumbdown:

Yeah, I'd say the mods are pretty impartial on this. On that note, I'll be surprised if this goes much further, but will say that w/e religion(or lack thereof)one might adopt, ALL humans are messed up to some extent.

That has been my experience as well. You can also see people on either side of this question bashing each other and others who can have a discussion about it without going postal.

If he hasn't renounced his faith he's got a lot of explaining to do.

I think a somewhat famous musician getting into the murder for hire business is somewhat newsworthy. The fact he is, or was, promoting his somewhat famous act off of its Christian beliefs makes for an interesting paragraph, imo. Quite a schism there. It doesn't make me think less of him, or make the crime of plotting to kill someone any more dastardly, but it makes it more interesting.

If it wasn't more interesting I would never have read the article or been exposed to their advertising. Sometimes your ends are better served by being quiet.

I would posit that it was handled this way because every philosophy needs a light shined on it's hypocrites.

Degraded from a religion to a philosophy now, eh?

I hate when things like this happen. It takes the world's focus off the greater number of those who are doing it right and puts it on a hypocritical few. This guy's actions are NOT what Christianity is about.

Nothing got degraded. Isn't any religion a metaphysical philosophy? Unless I've misunderstood something. And, yeah, any cause can be picked apart from the few a holes that mess it up. Hell, even mail men have that "going postal" thing, though I am yet to be shot down by my postman. Nice guy.

Spend some time in the TB Lounge.

+1 as well.

I do. I spent six months having some great conversations in the jesus freak thread. Plenty of heated debate, but no insults or personal attacks.

The insinuation was that the mods somehow turn a blind eye to criticisms of christianity but pounce on anything that might be seen as an attack on any other religions....to which I say 'nonsense'.

Anyway, bloodhammer nailed it...less talk about an idiot and his beliefs. The issue is the major suckiness of the band.

I looked at a number of news articles about this singer. Most of them refer to Lambesis's membership in a "Christian metal band" which I think is OK. It doesn't say anything about his religion, but simply what genre of music he plays and the nature of his band's business. The ABC News article linked by the OP is unusual in that it simply calls Lambesis a Christian singer, which would make someone wonder why they were mentioning his religion.

Mentioning his business to provide some background on why this guy is newsworthy at all: OK

Mentioning his religion out of context: Not OK

I'm Christian and I disagree.
