As I Lay Dying Singer Tim Lambesis Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Plot

It doesn't say anything about his religion, but simply what genre of music he plays and the nature of his band's business. The ABC News article linked by the OP is unusual in that it simply calls Lambesis a Christian singer, which would make someone wonder why they were mentioning his religion.

Mentioning his business to provide some background on why this guy is newsworthy at all: OK

+1. Nothing wrong, IMO, with mentioning that it's a Christian metal band. Still a noteworthy thing.

Three things:

A) It was an Elvis impersonator trying to take the president's life. It got coverage.

B) It was an Elvis impersonator trying to take the president's life unsuccessfully, and represented more a random, low functioning lunatic than a general threat to the public. His attempts were apparently easily thwarted and his publicity seemed equivalent to his ability to be taken seriously.

C) There may have been other breaking news that week that may have been a slightly greater threat to the public and trumped pretty much all other stories that otherwise could've been milked more during a slower news week.

Hmmmm, 3 secrets... a past career as a lap dancer, a birthmark in the shape of Utah, and a present career as a lap dancer. I'm not sure which belongs to who though.

I'm one of 'them' too, and I'm hiding 24 Vietcong in a tunnel underneath my lawn.

Look, any time I've talked with Christians or Catholics for that matter in the "group", it comes off as "it's just a thing, it's how we were raised, it's not special but it's just a moral compass we try to use to lessen some guilt".

Also, don't you find it odd he needlessly proclaims it?

Like me saying "hi I'm Xxxxx and I'm a great person." Don't you think it would be evident if I was without saying it? But saying it comes off as padding for the times I might bring a baseball bat and slam it into someone's desk, screaming "WHO'S HAVING A GOOD DAY??".

I've never heard of him so I don't know for sure, but from what I can tell he answers questions about it in interviews. I'm not sure what you consider "needless"....but Christianity is supposed to be a public service religion. The fact that someone talks about it could just mean that they are doing what they are "supposed to be doing," and not that they are attention whores or crooks.

Although there are people who throw it out there to the point where I feel like, yeah, this guy's using religion as a crutch or a veil. So I agree with you in principle, though my line is probably in a different place than yours.

NOTE: I hope it is plain that I am not using talkbass to advocate religion or to put down anyone who isn't religious. Just offering some insight

So, what's my secret? :D

I can honestly say I've never met a Christian, of pretty much any denomination, that's explained it to me like that.

Also, saying that you're a Christian, and being proud of being a Christian is not the same as saying they're a great person.

It may not be the same but it carries the same meaning.

It's like saying water is wet. That's just how big the "Christian" identified population is.

So I don't see it as really saying anything, and it just looks like filler because its void of meaning unless you're really living some out there quality of life which I can't imagine.

Considering my uncle is a priest, I can say I've seen enough.

Im not a Christian, but I am hiding the bodies of 12 deceased prostitutes under my vegetable garden. Great fertilizer!

Well, being raised Episcopalian (I'm a full on agnostic today), I was raised that religion was a private matter, so you'd be in a room full of 'Christians' and the subject would simply never come up. Nor would it come up in the company of folks who might not be Christian. This may also have come from the economic class I was born into and ethnic culture I'm from (WASP all the way, German/English stiff-upper-lip, discretion discretion discretion).

In this country Christianity is the dominant religion, whether Protestant or Catholic, which is why I always get a kick out of the 'Help, I'm being oppressed' thing we sometimes hear these days.
