As I Lay Dying Singer Tim Lambesis Arrested in Murder-for-Hire Plot

Wasn't metalica metal polka? (hiding)

If that's the same as "metal poke-a" perhaps.:hmm:

I recognize the band name but I can't recall any of their specific tunes. Metalcore kind of went the way of 80s metal: A few really good bands came out and then the genre became filled with cookie-cutter imitators. I'm not sure if As I Lay Dying falls into that category.

I don't get into all of the Kurt Cobain conspirarcies, but there is a video of one of the dudes from The Mentors (a band with some pretty distasteful lyrical themes) who alleged that Courtney Love approached him about taking Kurt out. Regardless if that's true, it's pretty crazy stuff.

Its mentioned in some documentary, possibly called Kurt & Courtney.

"El Duce (real name Eldon Wayne Hoke), who claimed that Love offered him $50,000 to kill Cobain. El Duce claimed in the film that he knew who killed Cobain, but said he would "let the FBI catch him". Two days after that interview was filmed, El Duce was hit by a train and killed."

Three things:

A) It was an Elvis impersonator trying to take the president's life. It got coverage.

B) It was an Elvis impersonator trying to take the president's life unsuccessfully, and represented more a random, low functioning lunatic than a general threat to the public. His attempts were apparently easily thwarted and his publicity seemed equivalent to his ability to be taken seriously.

C) There may have been other breaking news that week that may have been a slightly greater threat to the public and trumped pretty much all other stories that otherwise could've been milked more during a slower news week.

I suppose I could take a poll of everyone I come across for the next two weeks and see what the results would be, but I can tell you what it would be now: a small fraction would be knowledgeable. Again, as I said before, it could be the region I live in. It could be the media in the area.

There may have been other news but there may have been more time needed to be filled making "point" C slightly moot. Also, being condescending may give off the light that you are entirely laughable.

I think that once it was determined that the man was not a suspect, it was no longer the same story. Are you suggesting that the media should have been required to pursue the story as though he was guilty? Because there is a big difference, you know.

Of course it's not the same story at that point; stories develop and mature as information is uncovered, but you're moving into an area unrelated to my original point.

I actually hadn't seen anything on this. Wow!!

I had heard about it some time back and completely forgot about it (I mean, who really wants to keep that kind of thing in mind anyway) until it was mentioned by someone else in the thread. I had to Google it to see what the story was about. I got into the second sentence and then kicked myself for the effort.

I didn't get past the headline. :p I agree with you there are some things I don't want floating around in mind.

Hardnews? Absolutely. Importance of the media in this style of government? Absolutely. Do we have an unbiased, reliable source of media? Not in my eyes. You pick your spin and try to decipher yourself. Every source has a hand up their butt from some money based puppet master.

We have never, in the history of humanity, ever had a compeltely unbiased media source. We reached the "golden age" of journalism in the 20th century. The 19th century was far more degenerated than the 21st; and the 18th...the 17th, on and on were even worse. Back then, you got the side your relative/friend told you and went with it. The newspapers were far worse.

Innocent or guilty, detained or released, that story was largely ignored in my opinion and my original point remains.

Maybe it's just the region I live in?

At the time - a city exploding, two earthquakes, multiple other tragedies, and afterward a 5-story building collapse were buried by the onslaught of what color underwear was worn by the Boston bombers. The mailing incident was just another one.

The media cares not about cut-and-dry. They are a wh**e for a good chase. But I digress.

Religion was mentioned because like it or not, "christian heavy metal" is a sub genre. That's it, nothing more. I doubt the author has any hidden agenda in this article. I've seen the band described as christian heavy metal in plenty of other articles.

Still, this doesn't compare to the recent accusations against the Lost Prophets singer.

Yip. It's a label thing. There are many (people and members) who are in "Christian metal" or any other "Christian" that are in label only.

It's part of that magical realm some (including me) like to refer to as "Cultural Christianity". It is a Western and largely American-specific phenomenon. It largely does not follow the tenets of the religion it claims but strayed; those who are knowledgeable in the religion itself would recognize this, those who are ignorant would equate the counterfeit with the original.
