Look what I found at a flea market:
Just a little dust and gunk and some fine scratches on the fingerboard and a missing pickup-cover! Number 25.
Desperatly waiting for the shop to open, where the postman dropped off my new pack of strings...
First impressions with the two old original sticky strings: Babypowder is my friend as will be my new toy!

Nice! Can you post more pics once you get new strings on?
I'd think a Guild Ashbory would fit in time better. Those very new offering of polyurethane strings make me doubt this is Wyman's. Of course he could be enjoying the Dearmond recently.
I'm in the tryouts - it still feels a little strange to play... I must confess, that I'm open to offers...
It doesn't feel like anything else except those ukes.
Play a note and bring the tone and intonation with your touch.
Sit or lay on s couch and hold that Ashbory upright with headstock on your clavicle.This causes tone to resonate through you. This may aid in your note presentation. I've been playing these since early '90s.
They had to go - I'm now on silicones...totally different animal! Thanks for support and tips, community!

With the strings and winding posts off, there's a big range of play in the worm gears, three of the keys including the D and G , wiggle a lot. Seems like the shaft with the worm gear and tuning key is located by two "C" shaped holes in the stamping , and that locates the gears. I don't really want to try bending the stamping back to make a better fit unless others have tried it ;-) . But you can see that, as the string loads up the winding post and the post tips in the headstock bushing , it could just jam the worm gear. Any comments ?

First and positive not negative comment. Return it. Also if you like Ashborys, I do, keep this one for parts and buy a fully functioning one.
I've seen that loose situation. Someone was cranking with too many winds. It should be a gentle process to get in tune. Other issue is I recommend silicone strings over all of the poly Uke strings out there. I've tried them. The silicones intonate better and aren't as stressful on the tuners. Ashborys have longer fret bds than the Ukes and poly strings don't make notes but for a short range of the strings. Of course I don't know what strings are on yours.
To an earlier question I don't know availability of tuners. There may be a stash somewhere.
