Assembling a 'tractor' jazz bass clone/tribute.

I’ve been measuring. I installed new Fender (‘70’s chrome) tuners on the vm Squier with Chris Aiken neck. When the tuners were off I could compare the size and placement of the holes.

I was able to install the ‘60’s nickle fender tuners on the neck with the blue headstock. Still have to reinstall the nickle hole covers.

I damaged the paint while uninstalling the rings.

This one is nearly finished. But… i miss an 8 and 10 mm drillbit to fit a stacked potmeter.

I want 3x volume and 1 tone. After everything works I will expand so it works as a stereo bass. Probably with two Q filters from bill lawrence.

Sampling the sound of tractors.... I mean they do have the best engine sounds..... I like Lanz Buldog. But there are many. Those old engines have that sound we all like...

Now... that Oempf... Normally you only find that in an upright bass.

What Berry Oakly lacked at the top he gained at the bottom. So even with a 4 string bass he got out of the way of the guitar players and the organs and the vocals.

I find that a quality usually lacking in a jazz bass.

I am working on the electronics. I have a stereo (two mono jacks on the side) connection. But the jack chassis do not fit. The holes need to be made bigger. I allso need to drill a hole for a switch. So I can output the big pickup to a seperate output if I want. First it wil be simple. 3 volumes and maybe a tone. Then a switch to a seperate mono output. But that is for another day.

And I need to take the neck of the new bass and put it on the tractor. I have ordered new decals. I have another neck with black blocks that will go on the jazz. It's gonna be some switcheroo.

I purchased a Honda Pan european. I was kinda lost on the highway somewhere.... Soon, soon I will be back on track.

I have received new waterslide decals. I can drill the new jack chassis holes behind the stereo plate....

I stumbled over an advert of an Acoustic 125 guitar amplifier. It was listed as defect. It plays fine however. I will have to open it because it may have some elco's that are boiling. This is probably manufactured between 1978 and 1983. These are rare in the Netherlands. So I am stoked to have it. It's clean clean clean and more clean. It came with the original footpedal. It has EQ (on/of) Second channel (clean) and reverb (on/of).. Second channel and EQ are switched during a replacement switch repair. I will switcheroo that.

I bought a new neck for the Tractor jazz bass project. The neck It has has the tuningpeg holes drilled in the wrong location. Since I am using reverse vintage tuners with mountingplates that will hit eachother.... It does not work out. The new neck has rozewood, block inlays and binding. It is a squier neck so it should all fit. Next week I will go get it. It is allready paid for.

Yes. I have 3 new decals. I still have paint and I have another neck. Errors have been made. Wrong purchases have been done and I made mistakes too.

But I have learned that mistakes are progress in disguise.

If you look at the bass in avatar. It started then with a cheap bass a wrong humbucker and just some exersises. I loved that bass. It was a Jack & Daniels jazz bass. They really do make great basses.
