AudioKinesis 1x12 Cab Part Two

In my experience, a mismatched load like that is going to work badly, not because the resulting resistance is too low, but because the lower resistance cab will be significantly louder, drawing more power from the amp. Was the little 8ohm 10" even audible?

I'd imagine that 1x10 cab handles far less power than the 12" cab. In this case I'd personally rather have the impedance match. Elsewise you'd never be able to turn the amp up enough to adequately drive the thunderchild.

Great point. I didn't scrunch down to ascertain that, but I'll ask Dave the Drumster his view of it all. He's a pretty discerning cat.

I'd love to do it just with the TC, which I'll try next time (likely in a month, there, the perfect A-B opportunity).

One last thought for the Duke:
Maybe if this whole math thing works out, the next gen of the TC could be the Galaxy 5.00. It worked pretty well for Ford 45 years ago.

Sort of, anyway. I've actually played out a couple of dozen times with my TCAF, but last night was the first time it was with my own band, and in full multitasking mode. I used the TC cab for all our onstage monitoring, with bass, vocals, and guitar synth each getting their own EQs and with me playing both EUB and fretless BG besides the synth.

This was my first gig in this very tough room. It's pretty much a classic bomb shelter, albeit with exposed beams and wood on the ceiling at least. The stage is backed by a gabled window with one right angled corner and a fairly low ceiling, and has no carpeting, which holds true for the rest of the place as well. My drummer did bring in a large carpet though. It's a busy, noisy brewpub and was made even noisier by the fact of being an all ages show at standing room only capacity, with maybe 150 people inside. The band is just a duo -- drums and me.

I brought in way too much PA, mostly just because I can. Stereo, biamped 3-way cabs, a really nice mixer, DSP speaker controller, yada yada. I ran just the TC on Bass for a while, and just the PA for one tune, but both most of the time. I ran stereo effects through the PA, with the lower lows rolled off to prevent cancellation issues. I had the TC angled a bit toward the drummer, behind me but positioned so that the 50 degree vertical horn dispersion missed my mic by a little. On such a live stage, and with the back firing tweeter at work, the TC worked great for vocal monitoring. It was also wonderful for bowed EUB, which is uber-demanding on a bass cab. And of course it kills for "normal" bass reinforcement. I never even touched my bass preamp's EQ all night, just left it dead flat. Three thumbs up! :cool:

I should mention: my takeaway was that I could easily do many gigs with just the TC carrying both vocals and instruments. I actually did both our rehearsals for this gig that way, using this rig:

But since I'm addicted to stereo rigs, having two would be even better...:cool:

LOL....yes, I know.....I almost made that mistake myself....but really....at 15 x 14 x 14 you can't call it a Child....so I started calling them ThunderTots but kids or babies will do just as well......lol...ThunderBabies?? Oh, well, my Babes? Now there's another politically incorrect term......lol

I'll brake them in then I'll try to record something.....will see if it blasts away my MarkBass MB121P and NY121 cab away, if so the MB is for sale...might try the GB STM600 too some time down the line
