AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Yeah, I need to get back to the 1855. It was my go-to cab, which is why it was in the practice room that I had been frequenting the most, but as luck would have it, that band went on a cold streak and two other bands I play in (which practice elsewhere) heated up. I'll be back in that room next week.

The WalkAbout is the head with the least power which I have found to sound great with the 1855. But I have also used several other heads to great effect, including the MB800 and MBF800, Glockenklang Blue Soul, Monique/Minnie, and TecAmp Puma 900. I've used some tube heads, as well, and it responded quite well.

I can only imagine what the H1855 would sound like with the MBF800, but after trying the MB500 with one of the H1203's, I would have to say that the marriage between the bigger amp with the H1855 would be a very very nice compliment!

I've got two questions if you don't mind. Have you used the prodigy with the hathors? How in the world do you decide which gear to gig?

Sorry I've been offline for a while, I'm now a Homeless Texan, as the house we were really hoping to get is apparently un-loan-on-able. So we're staying with relatives and I'll hopefully have a part-time workspace lined up soon.

Glad to hear you guys are having fun with the little Hathor cabs, and having fun dreaming about the big Hathor cabs! The mid-sized Hathor 15xx is still very much in the pipeline, though it may be a few weeks before I have a chance to work on it as my last batch of boards didn't get run before the move so those boards will have to be shipped to me.

Sh*t hate to hear that don,t worry about the cabs take care of the important things first such as finding a Home in Texas !!!!

Duke, sorry to hear about the new home, but maybe after all, it wasn't in the mix for you and that particular home wasn't meant to be for you!

Well I got a chance to try the amp for a few minutes with the cabs this evening.. everything is working as it should be.

But what I can say is this.. that amp with these cabs is brite! And that was everything centered up, I tried each of the "mid" detents, brite.. But when you push in that ummm big butted booty button, OMG!

I can only imagine what the H1855 would sound like with the Seven Pro with that Big Butted Booty Button engaged!

Duke was kind enough to ship this little guy down for a recent GTG. I fell in love, could not send it back. Just spent the last week reading the 1000's of posts. Exciting stuff. Now I am in the phase of "well I really need a stack". After reading everything I am still not sure if I should go with 2x1203 or a1203 and an 8ohm tc112v2.

1203 x 2 must be awesome, but it might be nice to have different cabs for different roles. I know there are a few of you out there with these variations. Any comments welcome.

I did have an occasion to visit a local studio last week. I brought the full MAS MVW rig plus the 12. For fun we decided to try just the 1203. Sounded great until the drummer kicked in. He was soooo loud I wanted to leave, but instead pulled the 110s out of the car to see if it would give me more presence. Killed the M700, hooked up the 110s and tossed it under the 1203. I did not touch anything, just turned back on. Both the drummer and the guitar player started to complain, saying they could feel the bass in their stomach and it was making them sick. While this is not what I am going for, most of the time, it sure was pleasing to have the drummer ask me to turn down. I was finally able to get him playing a little more dynamically, under fear of brown note.

So in overthinking about that, I got curious about the stack options. The ability of the Tc112 to go low is tempting, the additional voicings are also tempting. Just out of curiosity, has there ever been any consideration of a stand alone sub?

Dominic, did the MAS sub play well with the Hathor? That in itself is interesting. Did you run the Hathor full range or after the high-pass of the sub? (I think I've got that right.)

You do!

I ran it full range with the sub simply being a sub. I figured what the hell, a 12 that looks like a 10 and a 10 that feels like a 15. IMHO they paired very well. Basically just a huge bottom end presence. Mike says, on his site, that the 110s can be added to just about anything.

Please be kind. Not only an I mixing cabs, but manufacturers. I know this is not ideal, but I love to play around. Anyway this is not like adding 15 under a 410. The 110s is a dedicated sub, not a second full range speaker. However, now I am wondering what a 46/1203 stack might sound like....

You sir, have always been a pleasure. :) Having been around a few years, I am half waiting for 35 posts about why the combination will not work. Comb filtering, cab mixing, impedance matching, SPL, OCD, ADHD, and all that jazz.

Went to a audition this evening, took both cabs, that Ampeg amp really works well with those H1203's! I was running about 10 o'clock the master, but the gain was all the way up just to get the light to come on on input stage of the amp. That bass I have must have a very soft output. The other guys in the band loved the cabs.. they had nothing but compliments for them!

I have not tried the Prodigy with any of the Hathors, but I should be able to try that setup at band practice this Thursday. :thumbsup:

As far as what goes to a gig, this decision is most often made based upon what gear I am reviewing at the time. If I don't have anything in particular to gig for a review, I try to match the rig to the band I am playing in (I play in 4 different bands at the moment) and the particular venue.

I will say that a number of gigs back (before any of the Hathors), I had an MB800 driving my TC115AF, and I told my drummer at the time, "If you ever see me with a rig bigger than this one, it's because I am forced to bring something for a review." :D
