That sounds like a fun event! I'd love to attend something like that.

FWIW, I've been quite impressed with the Kemper so far. It seems to have a fairly large number of great bass models (which I believe are free), and I have not started modelling any of my own amps yet. I do feel that the learning curve may put some folks off a bit, and if the Axe-Fx is more intensive in this regard, then it might be more twiddling than I'd be interested in doing, as the Kemper is pretty much as involved as I would want to be. Still, I'd love to hear them side by side...

If you're ever going to be in the Seattle area, hit me up :).

The Axe-Fx can have as high or as low of a learning curve as you want. If you want to just call up the SVT and play with bass/mid/treble controls, then you can do that and get good tones. If you feel the need or want to dig in deeper for something, you can do that too. The UI does a good job of separating the most common functions (eq, gain, master volume) from the advanced stuff (variac, output tubes, etc).

Wellllllll I think something bad finally happened to ol' trusty. When the switch on the back is in the "up" position, it makes a gnarly (not at all in a good way) pop/distortion... and in both positions, it seems to have some uncharacteristic distortion coming from the 18.

Sad day is sad.

I'm going to unload it later tonight, and then tomorrow do some thorough testing to see if I can identify the actual issue and then talk to Duke.

Well that's no fun but you can at least go to bed knowing that Duke will get you back up and running ASAP.

Just got off the phone with Duke and I'm definitely going to soon have a Hathor 1203 in a matter of weeks...when that happens I'll be sure to add Memphis, TN to the list. Btw, my TC112v3 sounded absolutely stellar at our annual alley party. I had to go with some extreme EQ settings on the TH500 head to get a tone I really liked (cementing the fact it is not the head for me, I plan on letting it go once I have enough to cover the balance of Mesa D800), but once I had that sorted out both my fretless and fretted Jazzes sounded sumptuous. What a tremendous cab, thank you Duke!

Yep, there's a TC112 in Portland that belongs to a now-infrequent TB user who sells recording studio gear and another one out here in my living room Kirk.
