I'm incorporating symmetrical ports in my double 18 boxes using B&C's equivalent to the Faital FH510. I like high sensitivity but i also wanted wide bandwidth. Glad to see success using 18's that high.

I do notice that the HP1060 specs mention double spiders. Is that false?

Also wanted to ask how consistent the specs are between drivers and the spec sheet. All four B&C's had equivalent fs and very similar qts but the fs was about 9hz lower than the spec sheet. Thanks.

B&C makes some very good woofers. In the past I've run into Fs being higher than claimed on a couple of models, now you're finding it lower than claimed... good for extension but not so good for efficiency.

I only remember seeing one spider on the HP1060, but I overlooked that "2x" in the "spider profile" spec and didn't eyeball the motor closely.

The bottom end of the two 5" mids overlaps a bit as it blends with the top end of the HP1060, hopefully without the transition being obvious. The nice thing about the HP1060 is that it doesn't have a nasty peak that has to be filtered out. If I did have to filter it, I'd need to use (among other things) two 14-gauge inductors in parallel to avoid bottlenecking the power handling.

The mids are still contributing significantly down in the 500 Hz ballpark, though "on paper" their rolloff starts a lot higher up. I'm using a high-pass filter that starts out roughly first order and then accelerates to second order for better protection than an equivalent first order filter would provide. I'm also doing some response shaping, so there's more going on with the mids than just a high-pass filter.

I'm probably as anxious to hear from Tom as any of you. I think the phrase is, "waiting with baited breath"... that's right, my breath probably smells like fish bait. Anyway Tom don't pull your punches, I learn more from my mistakes than from my successes, and I wouldn't have sent them to you with everyone watching if I couldn't take the heat.

I have a WalkAbout and a Monique, but no Buster (though I do have a D-180, Bass 400, M6 and a Titan V-12).

Oh, yes, the port plugs come out as soon as the cab is out of the box. I think of them as one additional tool in the toolbox when it comes to dealing with "room control."

Hi everyone, I have a Hathor Cab on it's way from a fellow TB'r. I bought it because I need a cab that I can hear well if I'm standing right next to it and I can fit it with my P.A. in my my 4runner. If I set my svt on top, will it block the top holes, defeating the effect they have ? If so, what are some other versatile heads that sound good. I'm playing funk with my current band but I also play a variety of rock, reggae, top40. This cab will be just for stage volume.

Congratulations!

Unfortunately the Hathor 1544 wasn't really designed with the footprint of the Ampeg SVT in mind. The cab's top is only 18" wide by 13" deep.

Hmmm. If you install rubber feet on one side, you could lay the cab on its other side and then you'd have plenty of room for the SVT. Choose the side so that the mids would be on the side where you normally stand, or else just do it to both sides. In that configuration the two 4" cones would have their wider dispersion in the vertical plane, which would help offset the reduced height. Horizontal dispersion would be reduced to comparable with an 8" cone mid, which is probably still not too bad.

I use #8 x 3/4" black panhead screws to hold the corners and feet in place, so that's what I'd recommend. Just drive the screw into the wood, no pilot hole required. If you use an electric screwdriver to get it started, stop early and finish the job by hand. Don't overtighten, as the tradeoff for that lightweight Italian poplar is, it's soft and you can spinout the screw if you overdo it. If that happens, all is not lost - glue a wooden matchstick into the hole with plenty of wood glue (tilt the cab if necessary so that excess doesn't drip onto the cone), let it dry overnight and trim it flush, and try again.

I used a few heads with the cab. Aguilar TH 500, WW stereo green, Demeter M800D, and the DeMonique Tardis . They all work well with the Hathor. I'm sure you'll find a head that speaks to you!
The cab is packed up and ready to go! It's been raining non stop , my friend has a truck, so I might wait till Saturday to ship it if it won't fit in the cab.
