Always fascinating to see the AudioKinesis line evolve, often in incremental fashion. However, the original designs are solid from the start, offering great tone and value even as version 1 of x. Enjoying the "old" as well as hearing of the new. Thanks, Duke, for your commitment to the sound of bass, and bass players. Finally got my Hathor 1203 yesterday...you may notice something different!
Y'all gettin' weird.
I'd argue that six hydrocoptic marzelvanes might do the trick
That's why gawd invented the Sawzall...
I'll tell ya... multiple ports on the 1203... I'm jealous!

Duke, did you add or modify any internal bracing due to this new port design? Did this change have much effect on the rigidity of back wall of the cab?
Three ports open = 54 Hz tuning frequency (fartout resistance still looks good); +.5 dB @ 82 Hz; - 2.5 dB @ 62 Hz; and -10 dB @ 44 Hz.
Plug one port (two ports open), and the tuning is within 1 Hz of the single 3" port, about 45 Hz. We're -.5 dB @ 82 Hz; - 3 dB @ 62 Hz; and -10 dB @ 41 Hz.
Plug two ports (one port open) and now the tuning frequency drops to 33 Hz. We're -2 dB @ 82 Hz; -4.5 dB @ 62 Hz; and -10 dB @ 40 Hz.
Plug all three ports (sealed box) and we're -4 dB @ 82 Hz; - 6.5 dB @ 62 Hz; and -10 dB @ 47 Hz.
So in English, we have a little bit bigger low end than with the single 3" port when all three 2" ports are open. We have essentially the same low end as the single 3" port when two ports are open. And with one port open we have one more intermediate step, with a tighter low end, before we go all the way to sealed box mode.
Duke, can you comment on what (if any) effect this would have on mixing a new 3x2" port 1203 with an older 1x3" port cab? It sounds like with either all ports plugged (sealed cabs) or 1 port plugged on the new ones (same tuning) they should behave the same, but with all ports open on the new version would the slightly different tuning between the two cabs lead to the low end being less defined, or is it fine?
This is fascinating! I stacked my little GenzBenz Shuttle 10T cab on the new 1203 (2 ports open) and it sounded amazing! They are surely tuned quite differently.I think having a slightly different tuning frequency for the two cabs (either zero or two ports plugged in the new one) might even be the best option. Briefly, spreading out the port tunings a bit should result in slightly better pitch definition. You can read a longer explanation in the bottom few paragraphs of this post, where I'm replying to something engedi1 noticed when using cabs with different tunings (Hathor 1203 + Thunderchild 112).

Also, Duke, where did you get that wonderful quote on your sig?
If enough people borrow that for their own quotes [signatures], you'll be well on your way to starting a cult. How much acreage do you have up there in Princeton?Sweet!
[weirdness]
I don't know. It just popped into my head one day, a few weeks ago. I think it's my subconscious putting into words something that I need to work on. It hit me pretty hard, and I decided to put it into my signature mostly as a reminder to myself. It is NOT something that I have a good track record with, but if it's out there "in public", it's like I have a better chance of remembering it, and a bit more incentive to try to live up to it.

Well now it's really in public, I put it on my FB page because it hit me so hard. I'll give you credit, thanks!Sweet!

Fantastic. That's an even better result than I had hoped.I think having a slightly different tuning frequency for the two cabs (either zero or two ports plugged in the new one) might even be the best option. Yes, I get it...makes sense.Wow... I don't know what to say. Thank you. But you are more than welcome to leave my name out - if the content really is that good, attaching a person's name to it might be a distraction.
I've been seriously considering a Hathor 212 lately because of it's percussive and solid low end but am torn between 3" versus 5" mids. I play mostly rock, blues, funk, and modern country and was wondering if the slightly louder and growlier 5" mid would be a better fit. There don't seem to be many Hathor 212's out and haven't heard of one with a 5" mid yet so there is no user feedback. I don't need to hear up to 14k with a bass but like to have the mids stand out if needed. Thoughts on this?I had an Hathor 1505 side by side with an Eminence loaded MAS 112. Very close in total output. MAS was slightly warmer, and a bit more polite. 1505 is a Killer Rock cab and by far the hardest hitting sub-40lb box I have had the pleasure to try.
