Duke, sorry but I just have to bug you a little to update your website. Not that I don't like looking at my still favorite TC 115AF cabinet. But Duke you have some new cabinets available. The only cabinet I may be interested in (not that any of your cabinets isn't worth playing) is getting one of your cross eye'd Mary's.

Totally valid, and the wheels are turning.

We're working on a rather thorough overhaul of the website, moving to a new program that will make it practical for me to make updates without having to bug my website guy (whose day job and family life are quite packed right now).

I agree that the 10's are the hard part. I'm using the Kappalite 10---but I have to cross it over quite low. To me---the 3010lf is a glorified subwoofer---it's pretty sketchy as you get into the lower mids.

I'm surprised that the Italian companies haven't come up with a good 10. If I remember correctly---the fs's are too high.

That 1203 really does look quite nifty! I love those little Faital 3's!

Leon let me borrow his TC115-8 this past weekend for a gig.

I took it home and tried it out with my amps. First I tried it with my TH500. It sounded very good. Just for $h#@$ and giggles, I figured I'd see how it sounded with my Fender SB300. It sounded great. I decided I'd take both amps to the gig. Not a big room and we keep the volume to a reasonable level (it's a function/band room part of a restaurant). The TH500 was for backup.

We play blues/roots type music. It's six piece band with sax and two guitars (don't get me going on why two guitars) and we had a harp player sit in with us on a few tunes.

Anyway, the band absolutely loved the tone of the SB300 and the TC115. I was playing my G&L L2K with LaBella flats. Tone for days!!

I'd still like to work with that cab and the amp more to try to dial in the sound. It's only the second time I've gigged that amp b/c I don't have a cab that works with it.

I had recently watched a youtube vid of the SB300 with a Berg HD410 and really liked the tone at the beginning of the vid. I was thinking about maybe trying out the NV115 but Leon is gently pushing me in this direction. :)

I would love to compare the Hathor to the TC115. Not sure how much better or different it would be.

When you get the TH500 pushing it's gain and drive to the point it starts to get a little hairy, it's sounds absolute magical....espc with the TC112. I used to have a 4ohm TC112. I rather liked the pairing if the TC112 (original version). I flipped my TC112 and have a 4ohm TC115 on the way. I'm going to assume from all I read the original 4ohm TC112's and 115's sound pretty indistinguishable....the 115 being the louder of the two. Thus, my reason to pursue the 115. I'm going to expect the TC115 to sound pretty darn good with the TC115.

There's a strong family resemblance, but they do differ a little bit.

The custom 4-ohm woofer in the original 4-ohm version is about halfway in between the Kapplites 3015 and 3015LF, in efficiency, excursion, low end extension, and native voicing.

The 8 ohm TC115 uses the stock Kappalite 3015 (non-LF), so it's a bit higher in efficiency, and correspondingly has a bit less weight down low. Excursion is still good enough that I haven't had any reports of fartout, but theoretically this cab cuts it a bit closer in that area. The stock 3015 also has some upper midrange bumpage going on that can impart a little bit of growly, so the smoothing circuitry is on a switch - meaning that you can choose between smooth mids (like the 4-ohm version) and a little bit more aggressive upper mids.

Edit: Thank you, lo-freq! If you look at the response curve of the 3015, you'll see the upper-mid bumpage that I was talking about. That's what the switch affects. The HF driver is unaffected.

Well then, the 8 ohm TC-115 sounded fantastic. I was fiddling with the bass knob on the amp a little during the gig. I cut some of the bass back on it. I didn't use the switches on the back. However Leon had them set was the way that I used it (unless the cab cover moved them :p )

The butt cheeks horn was also great. The lows and highs just seemed seamless.

I can imagine that sounds amazing. My 300Pro and the TC118 are wonderful on the electric and flat out ungodly on the upright. I really need to put some flats back on my P and see what happens.

I wish I had a mic that could handle it! Clean would be the word. It sounds very much like the DI out of my amp. I'll snag a pic for you... I forget the exact dimensions on mine besides a very easy to carry 52 lb weight. Mine is a one off and at least slightly different than Duke's production model.

I'd say it's footprint is similar to that of most 410's or 115's if not a little more lean. The cab doesn't look or feel big to me but goodness can it deliver volume and clarity. I loved the crap out of this cab once I put on some comp on to cover up my deficiencies. I'm still used to abusing lower powered tube amps. I think I learned my lesson when I blew up my VT-22 and quad of vintage CTS SVT speakers!

The top switch is for the top end of the spectrum, and the bottom switch is the midrange switch. UP is LOUDER in both cases, but the flattest, most DI-like response is with the top switch up and the bottom switch down.

When Duke told me he'd designed a TC cab around the 18FH500 that I bought for an unrelated cab rebuild, my eyes lit up too. My first TC experience was with a 112 a few years ago at a GTG and I loved it. As a former big cab (810) guy, I wanted the biggest, baddest TC I could get so that I'd never need more. Fortunately for Duke, it's so good that I want two!

Thanks! That little box was a mic pre plugged into the same power strip as the light. I didn't want to bother with it. :)
