Sort of defeats them.. It' on my mind as I just picked up a Demeter HPB-1 800d from the classifieds. I was using either a Markbass LMK or a Trace v type pre in a 2 space rackbag with a rad icepower 1000. The idea is to put the demeter in the rackbag and sell of the other stuff. So just thinking about ways to left the rackbag and keep the two ports on my hathor 1203 clear.

Bergantino Forte and Mesa D800 both fit with minimal obstruction.

On a related note, rehearsal for NYE show today, H1203 on top of the CT1203. Freaking slamming bootie. Couldn't be happier. Well, maybe another CT1203

I used to have an HBP-1 800D. How deep is that pre? Would it fit in a shallow rack (like the new SKBs)/rackbag, and would that be shallow enough to fit on the Hathor without obstructing the openings to the mid chamber? An alternative would be to set the bag on its side on the floor.

If the top openings are obstructed, that still leaves the sides open. If the rack has feet and there's some clearance between it and the openings, I'd think you'd still get some of the effect. Finally, if you dig the amp and have a friendly carpenter in the area, you might be able to get him or her to make the Demmie a small, custom rack or "head case".

Don't know if any of that helps, but that's what comes to mind.

Im going to be running a Magellan 800 on top of a Hathor 1203 and a Hathor 1203T.
Looks great on paper....but
Anybody have experience with Magellan and the Hathor ?
The amp is in transit, and the 1203T in process.

That’s true, although it doesn’t hurt anything to cover them. You just might not hear the sound coming out of them as well.

+1...oddly enough it's not as big of an issue as I had thought it would be.

I found that blocking the top openings completely (putting a book or something atop) makes an audible difference, but it doesn't put the Hathor at a disadvantage relative to other cabs, it just lessens one of its advantages a bit. It's nice having the openings unobstructed, but it's not like the midrange-treble energy can only escape straight up through those two holes on top.

I've also noticed, when playing with the KXB500, which comes right up to the mid-chamber openings, atop the cab, that it enhances their effect (relative to no amp on top) if you're standing even a little in front of the cab -- gives the sound a little "wall" to bounce off, I suppose. Not a huge effect by any stretch, but there.

That's some sweet gear ya got there nostatic. I have no doubt it sounds killer!

It was cool because we had two sub sax players, one of them a woman who lives down in OC. Her boyfriend (who is a guitarist) came up after the gig and asked me what bass it was, I said, "Fodera" and he said, oh yeah, he knows Vinnie, having lived in NYC for 35 years before coming back to LA. His comment was that the rig sounded dead nuts perfect for the music (this was the Steely Dan tribute band). Supported the music and fit right into the slot even through it is a 10-piece band. I thanked him and said I'd spent a lot of time and money chasing that sound, and actually it is a privilege to get to play that music. It's a Chuck Rainey clinic

We got to play a few SD tunes on last nights gig love that music. Playing the bass parts is a joy and a clinic all at once on several different levels. I noticed the tall version too and like the format a lot.

I think the biggest diff is the additional rear facing mid driver
Which is going to feel really nice to some people and not matter at all to others

I would agree and think that the extra 4 inches in the T version allows for more port openings (and corresponding options to open or plug) as well as adding a dB or two to the low end voicing.

Gig report! Just did a nice little jazz fusion gig at a medium sized club here in Nashvegas. I choose to only take my Tc112 4 ohm, and used my bluesman vintage plus Quilter bb800. BEST tone I've ever enjoyed at a live show. I heard every note crystal clear, and as always, the low end clarity and b string performance is simply unreal. (the B on the Bluesman is amazing and this helps) I would say the mix was 60% my rig plus some in the mains. Everyone thought the bass tone was great. This gig required a lot of slapping and a hifi sound, which is not my usual thing, and the TC handled this no sweat. I think if I had brought my hathor it would have been overkill. I'm always amazed at the power and low end clarity of Duke's stuff.
