When you have the opportunity to buy stuff in this category, when or how much doesn't matter - you just pay the bill and know the day will come where you'll be convinced every time you plug in that you can't put a price on quality and it was well worth the wait! My C112T drives that home at least a few times a week.

Since I posted this in another thread today, here's the Hathor that will go with it, when I want to level buildings.

What is the new one if it doesn't have a tweeter or a midrange driver? A Hathor? Thunderchild? Or, is a new name in order?

Sounds like a 15" variation on the "Thunder Tots" that Duke built for TBer @Loopie (I think). They were 12", no mid or tweet based (I think) on the Thunderchild v1.

My initial reaction is that it's a little big to be a "Tot", and imo it won't go as deep as "Sub" would imply. But I want to hear it before picking a name, as that usually helps me with the naming thing.

And Pat, if I ever do an add-on 118 cab, "ThunderSub" will start out as the front-runner!

same small footprint as my Hathor 1544

My head is 2 ohm capable, but I can also get a micro sometime and use it with one cab or the other. I didn't even ask @DukeLeJeune how long it will take, but I am psyched!

I did! Thanks for posting all that. No way will I do phase 2, but phase 1 doesn’t look too bad. The cab is working for me now obviously, but more natural low end would be welcome. I usually just boost lows a bit on my amp.

though an ardent admirer of Duke and his work ( i bought and run 2 1203s, couldn't be happier, ) i'm not sure a vanilla 15" is the best way to take advantage of le AK magique. kind of like ordering a cheeseburger at The French Laundry.

I think the analog to the cheeseburger at French Laundry would be putting some random driver in an AK cabinet without making use of Duke's well-conceived and designed drivers, crossovers and ports, but point taken. It's definitely not the epitome of what AK is, but the purpose is a matching sidekick to my "real" one, and a basic option for home use and small gigs where I just don't need that much treble (which is not uncommon for me). Duke knows I've been trying to get another 4 ohm 1544 for probably over a year now; this seems to be the best option for me given the limited number of those out in the wild.

yeah, i see where you're coming from. i'm not knocking it. it'll be a fine sounding cab, that's a given. the pluggable ports still give you some unique options, and everything will match, which is cool. OTOH, you can walk out of a mesa dealer with a nice basic 15 this afternoon, maybe save a few bucks, too. duke knows the score, i don't think he's worried. meanwhile, with the demise of the 1505, i'm thinking thoughts of Thunderchild!
p.s. i wouldn't even get past the foyer at The French Laundry, but i bet their cheeseburgers are from another planet.

How about a French Vanilla 15"?

It's possible that my custom 15" Kappalite might make a fairly decent midless tweetless cab. If it sucks, smperry won't be stuck with it. But we'd have to establish that it does not suck before I'm willing to assign a name to it. There are too few good names for me to waste one on a sucky cab.

It's impossible not to admire a designer/builder who will do beta testing and experimentation with customer suggested prototype designs right out in the spot light! You got to be a little crazy, someone who sees the road to success paved with potential failures, and well, pretty much Duke LeJeune to pull it off.
