Did you find the front and rear firing mid was an improvement in dispersion? I am currently quite pleased playing a BF Super Compact (I play flats and don't have, need, or want a lot of high end), but I have a Changeling on order in the hopes of achieving more dispersion.

My C112T definitely has a more 3D/omni-directional type of feel in terms of being heard well across the frequency range no matter where you are on stage. The first time I used it on a gig the drummer loved it. I find I can hear myself better as well. While it's not a stark night and day difference, it's much more noticeable than I expected (in a good way).

I’ve been rocking two Hathor 1203’s for a while now. Started with one and added another about a year ago.

I’m a person who likes to try out new stuff. I’m curious about what else is out there. I haven’t had any desire to try different cabs since I bought the first one.

I just like to pop in here every now and again and reiterate that these cabs are amazing and people should give Duke their money.

Hi guys, i need your help.

i own one of the older thundercab 112 for a few years and i love it (got it here in talkbass too). sadly, a friend borrowed it and i think he might have fried the tweeter. i was just wondering whether it was possible to repair it, since i noticed it has no fuse and i have a hard time pulling the tweeter out of the enclosure.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would contact Duke and get his guidance to first be sure you're on the right track relative to the tweeter being the failed component and second to get advice on how to repair the problem and the correct parts to use.

Why yes! I have a Super Compact as well. The Changeling definitely will get you better dispersion and you will love the mid driver. Moreso the front driver than the rear, but having both is nice. I feel the Super Compact is too dark for me, as I like a little snap..but not tweeter sizzle. So the AK cabs with the paper cone mids are perfect.

You'll also notice that the mids kinda come from everywhere instead of hitting you right in the face. That's also not an issue with the Super Compact, but more with cabs that have more extended range drivers like GK.

In fact....blashphemy here on my part AGAIN....I replaced the Barefaced driver with an Eminence Deltalite 2512 to get more upper mid snap. Works great and really opens the sound of that cab up plus makes it even lighter. I probably am taking a power handling hit, but I don't drive them with a lot of power anyway.

If the bugscreen is silver-ish, the compression driver is the Eminence ASD-1001. It's a screw-on driver.

Sometimes over time the horn tends to stick a bit. You might have to remove the woofer and push or tap on the compression driver/horn assembly from behind to get it out.

Thanks! Good to hear. That's what I am looking for, more mids dispersion, and am looking forward to the Changeling.

Well... go ahead and count me in... went in blind on this Thunderchild Composite 15 UPS just dropped off about an hour ago. I have never seen or heard these cabs, EVER, until just now. I took a major gamble on this, just needing a LIGHT cab, that also wouldn't be a big downgrade from my LDS 18/2-10/2-5 monster cabinet... Which I LOVE, but back problems since Oct have made it clear I need a lighter option, that can hang with full throttle Grateful Dead and Phish tributes, among other things... As well as appear unassuming to some sound guys who about lose their mind when they see me wheel in my 18/10/5 cab before hearing a note...
Long story little less long, I jammed my spine stepping in a gopher hole in my yard and it's taking a long time to heal and was surely prolonged from lugging that other beast around and simply having my bass strapped on. Started researching here and found these RIDICULOUSLY LONG threads and the more I read, along with the man himself looking like the most helpful builder (or business owner in general) I've ever seen in my life, posting what looks like a near daily basis over years here, answering every question asked... it got my interest. Then I saw the current wait for these things (which I should probably get in line for) and found this on Reverb... I believe this was actually posted in here a few months ago even, and sounded like consensus was the price was a little high... well lucky for me it was still there and I was able to grab it on what i felt was a better deal... but I had to pay for this thing don't get me wrong. What really sold me besides Duke's mountains of info here, was a couple comparisons I've seen to "Poor man's Meyer Sound" which is EXACTLY what I was looking for in an effort to get a closer sound on stage to what im sending FOH.
I've gone thru a lot of heads (and very mid honky loud lightweight cabs) but have been pretty happy with my current setup- Modulus Q5 > Tech 21 Blonde > Tech 21 Q-Strip > GK-700rb effects return > LDS 18+10s+5s
The blonde gets me a nice slightly driven fender flavor I feel does the old school Phil Lesh grit well, and the Q-Strip with HPF and parametric mids really has made it easy for me to get the tones im looking for and get that whole Phil as well as Mike Gordon type vibe, but hopefully with somewhat my own "voice"
Mike basically copied Phil's setup w Meyer and openly admits a such. No shame in it, its a ridiculous sound (if you're into that kinda stuff)
Well I don't know how close this is gonna get me to any of that, but I just went flat into the front of my 700rb with the Q5 and it about blew my ass away! Haha
Hooked up pedalboard and ran to the return like I normally would and that Q-Strip made this thing jump to life! And also showed me the type of tone sculpting I've been unwittingly doing! Not that it was bad... I have no band context yet but every tone adjustment is apparent, with zero boominess or ice pick (although i imagine it can be added if one cared to do that)
Very excited to get this in a band mix tomorrow and get a feel for it but WOW what a beast.
I was slightly concerned this 115 wouldn't be quite enough for some of the gigs.... im laughing at myself for even remotely worrying about that. I've never played out of anything this enormous sounding in my life without a powered sub. I guess I'm preaching to the choir here with thousands of pages of praise but I am damn sure happy I took a gamble on this thing bc I know immediately its a game changer for me... the drummers are gonna love it too. And this thing is lighter than my pedalboard?! Incredible.
One question I have... it does seem it needs more juice from my 700rb.
I also have an MB800... Should I be at all worried about too much power from the mb800? I believe the 700 is 480 watts @4 but I really don't wanna be hurting this driver from the sound of it, with it sounds like no replacement drivers available?
Sorry for the novel... longer than I planned to post but im blown away and grateful to have found these threads! And this rare TC15 Composite!
