My favorite "one to rule them all" cab (and I have a lot) is my TC115. It sounds good paired with a Hathor 1506, but I'd love another TC115.

My Hathor 1533 is the jam, and this summer I may have some outdoor stuff justifying use of my old v.1 TC115, in tandem

I believe the particular Eminence driver ( woofer, ) is no longer available. He ordered them special. Anybody else remember that?

The 4ohm twelve in the TC112 was a custom config. Not sure about the TC115 and the Hathors...

Hmm...wasn't the original TC112 a 4-ohm, with the theory that it would pull a full 500 watts from the Mark Bass LM II and contemporaneous amps...also reflecting lower efficiency as the trade-off for the fabulous bass extension? Been a long time, but I was an early adopter on these fabulous cabinets...

Yes. I have a v1 TC112, and it is indeed 4 ohms. I think Duke rated it at 94db IIRC. I'm not entirely sure if the woofer is custom or not though. I think Eminence used to make a stock 4 ohm Kappalite 12", but don't quote me on that.

I got tired of waiting for the service elevator, so I grabbed a cab in each hand and headed down the stairs. I was home less than an hour after the last note of the last song.

Yep. The TC 112 4 ohm is a custom driver, I’m not sure about its availability. My Hathor is 8 ohm and I think they are an available product. I am also not sure about the 4 ohm 115 in the TC. At one time Duke had a replacement in stock, but that seems like a long time ago

Duke worked with a designer at Eminence to get the characteristics he was looking for at the time. He had to make a minimum purchase in order to get them, and overbought so that he would have spare parts.

I played for three years with Bam Bam the drummer, driving my v1 TC112 hard with an MB800 and then with a Streamliner 900, and never had a problem. I'm still using mine weekly at more reasonable levels, with an MBFusion 500.

Still, there were reports of some people popping the (DeltaXXXX) Kappalites at high volume, so I wouldn't be surprised if Duke is out of spares for at least some of the configurations.

IIRC, there were ways that he could re-tune the crossover to make a substitution work. There would be a loss of performance, but not a huge one.

Just makes me more protective of mine...

You could also buy recone kits rather than having to stock replacement drivers, but I think it may have had to be at the time of the production run. The TC112v1 drivers were/are a Kappalite variant, not Deltalite. Kind of in between KL3012LF and KL3012HO, but leaning more toward the LF. My impression is that Roger Baer went the other way with his early ones, skewed a bit toward the HO. Two very nice flavors.

That's why I like the KL3012CX-8 so much. It's in between the KL3012LF and KL3012HO, has lows like the LF and more extended (but a bit smoother) mids like the HO, and is a stock item. Screw on an ASD1001 with a PXB:3k5 high pass and give it an EQ bump around 2kHz. Nice sounding bass driver in 1.8-2.0 cu-ft tuned to 55 Hz.

If that's not an option any more that sucks. I was going to post earlier that maybe a group buy order of drivers for cabs committed to by TBers might be the answer as GBs often work well in the hifi area, but I have no idea if the cab end would be possible for Duke even if the drivers were available on the older 50+ ordering scheme, so didn't want to put him on the spot.

I've often thought about getting custom drivers from them, but these days I design with DSP from the start so I can make the drivers do what I want for the most part anyway. This works fine for hifi that's fixed but is a little less practical for BG, but I might try it on the next build as I have some spare NUCs and interfaces and prefer multiway cabs.

I think either Duke or Mike Arnopol mentioned it being to 250 pieces at one point, but cab design has been straying further and further off my radar for a while now. The coax Kappalite drivers certainly would get a hard look if I got inspired to do another build for myself in any case. But I'm still very happy with the TC118AF I picked up last year.

That's a big commitment for a small manufacturer unless you're doing a 'multiple' type cab like a 4x10.

I have a couple of ideas on what to with the CX when it arrives. First is a better Headway FRFR12, second is a 3 way.

Last week I consumated the deal for a TC115AF 4 ohm cab. It is a v1 with the 'mondo' horn. Not really sure what it is ... Overall the cab seems a lot darker than expected. Yes... I have flipped the switch and one position is darker than the other.

I haven't spent quality time with a TC before. Are these cabs darker than they look ?

I just got my TC112AF v1 cab back in a trade, you are welcome to compare at your convenience. No more TC118AF here now, but it was glorious while it lasted!
