Yup. Most likely the voice coil rubbing.

If it's a first-gen 4-Ohm version like mine, I doubt that you can order a re-cone kit for it- it was a custom build.

Contact Duke, as he's the expert.

I know that he banked a percentage of the custom order from Eminence to use as maintenance spares. If they're no longer available, he may have other options.

The woofer in my 1505 blew a couple of years ago. Duke sent me a replacement.

110% recommend reaching out to Duke. I had some issues with my TC112 not long after I got it (dang international shipping) and he went to the ends of the earth to resolve the issue, including reaching out to my local repairer to work with him on it. Really was above and beyond.

Thinking about trying out an Ashdown Ant paired with my TC112 v1 (4ohm) cab as a pedalboard-only rig. All of my gigs have PA support, but a backline is hit or miss. I'd love to have the pedalboard carry my sound and have the option to bring my cab or use the backline as the situation allows. Has anyone tried this pairing, and can you share your thoughts/impressions? Thanks!

Hey ya'll, asking a question for the long time owners of Thunderchildren...
I've got a TC 112, bought used off here last year, an earlier version. It's been great. Until a gig last night. I could hear this weird crackly distortion behind the tails of notes, or soft notes. Anything loud came thru, but anything below a certain volume got crispy, and below that got cut out, like a gate.
Has ANYONE heard of anything like this? feel free to PM me if you'd rather be discrete, I'm not trying drag Audiokinesis or anything. Stuff happens. Just gotta figure this out before the next gig.
I've written to Duke waiting to hear back, and my audio guru here in town. Might have to open the whole thing up to see what I can see.

I had an issue with a high end rattle from my TC112 cab with the baby but tweeter. Ended up that the nuts inside the cab had worked loose and needed to be tightened back up. When I spoke to Duke about it, he jokingly said that I had discovered the only flaw in his build. I had to reach up, after removing the port rubbers, and tighten up all the nuts for the tweeter and the dual-switch. Mission accomplished!

Killer rig! I bet it’s fun to run both.

I have a Hathor 112 and an early TC 112. They sound okay together but I’d love to have another Hathor or Thunderchild to double up.

Went in a different direction after exposure to Greenboy Fearless, but was an AK user - several different models - for many years...and had the pleasure of knowing Duke LeJuene before he manifested as a speaker designer for instruments and hifi. In January we lost Steve Rolfe (first poster at the top on this page) @steve_rolfeca suddenly. His friends and family are going through a tough time with his unexpected passing.
RIP Steve. You will be missed.
Condolences to his family and friends.

His passing was a devastating shock to his family and friends.
