AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

This probably reveals something ugly about my character, but I absolutely love that " oh " moment.

IIRC, I got my TC112 around 2011, and it still never gets old.

You roll up to an unfamiliar venue with this little box that looks like a cheap PA speaker and a compact class D head, do your one-trip carry to your designated spot on stage, and anyone who you haven't played with before is giving you the stink-eye.

Then the downbeat hits.

I don't know which is better- the astonished looks, or the questions from other bassists and FOH about where to get one...
I played in a modern metal/alternative band for a year or so. I used my Hathor 212 and a Jule Simone velcroed to the top of a Jule M700 power amp. The only way to worsen the optics would be to wheel it in with a shopping cart. The band giggled and said “what the heck is that stuff?”, and “will it be loud enough?”. I powered up and even I was amazed at how amazing it sounded. Totally massive clean tubey brutality from my weird little pile of random colored boxes.

Is it just me, or is this the longest period of dead air in the history of this thread?

I realize that there was bound to be a drop in interest once Duke caught up with his backlog, but I hate to think that a marvellous cab line like this is going to go out with a whimper.

I mean, I could keep posting and gushing about how much I love my rig. 73 Jazz with rounds and/or 76 P with flats > Radial Mix Blender > Sushi Box Finally > Genzler Magellan 800 > one or two AK Hathor 1203. Someone comes up nearly every gig and compliments me on my tone.

It's kind of boring though since I really haven't checked out or coveted any new gear in quite a while.

I’d love to order a TC118. Maybe one day…..
I’m still toying with the idea of getting back the one I traded away, but my TC112 just seems like a better native fit tor what I’m doing these days. It works really well in my stereo acoustic guitar rig, especially. I made a pretty sweet little 8 + horn cab for the other side, but I’d love to upgrade that to one of Duke’s if he ever feels like doing something in that vein.

The TC112 is my most versatile. But the TC115 remains my “outdoor” cab, and is always enough (given PA support for the biggies). I can’t imagine what a 118 might accomplish!

I hate to be a downer but I don't think we will ever see any new AK cabs again. I hope to all that's Holy that I'm wrong but I just don't know. The backlog should be gone by now. I've been begging for 3 years for Duke to make me a simple crossover-less, mid-less, woofer-less (I already have a 3012lf on the shelf) cab to mate with my Changeling and he won't even take that order. I have since got my old Hathor back so I now have a pair of AK cabs that will stay with me as long as I can still play. I rarely do play anymore so I have sold off my Mesa, GK, and Barefaced cabs but my AK's are still here. I would love to see Duke get back in it and make me look like an idiot :)

No more AK cabs??? Sadness pervades the land.

But do not lose hope my friends - I have listed my Hathor 1506 and TC115 AF. Revel in the glory of vintage AK!
Sorry, it's Los Angeles local for now at least.

Wonders! They’re going to be like hens’ teeth. Though mine have been indestructible and will surely outlast me!

I hope you're wrong too, but I don't know either. I gave Duke a deposit last year and waited a whole year for my cab to get made, but I pulled the plug (actually, at Duke's suggestion) when it was clear that it wasn't going to get done anytime soon. To his credit, Duke immediately refunded my deposit, and even added a little extra for his having had the use of my funds over that period. I'd rather have had the cab, but things are as they are, not as we would have them be.

To be clear, I'm not casting shade on Duke. He's a gentleman. There was life stuff that got in the way, and his priorities made sense to me. Just from the little I know of his circumstances, I'm pretty sure I'd have done the same. It's just a pity from the buyer's side. I was really looking forward to my tall Changeling.

i've been saying this here for two years. the only thing worse than no more AK cabs is the loss of Duke as a regular contributor to the original talkbass community. he was the best of the best.

Just read your Hathor ad. I never knew that the threaded rubber insert was supposed to be removed along with the plug! Thanks for sharing that.

Sweet!

My band just closed out a 2-day music festival in Beloit, WI. Mesa Subway D-800+ into two C112T's. Killed.
