I just got home w/my B210 neo I grabbed from Cashhere he listed last night, and I noticed a difference in the design of the 10's vs the 12's I have in my B212. My cabs are the first Avatars I've seen in person, and I'm wondering if my 212 is indeed loaded w/neos.

2 Questions. What is the proper name of the screen-like part in the center of the 12 ? And is the 12 a neo ? I bought the B212 used and was told it was the neos, but the difference in design is throwing me off. If I had a scale, I'd just throw it on there and tell that way, but, no scale.

I just took delivery of a B212 about a month ago and I don't have the screen section in the middle of the spkr. It's definitely a neo though, I can tell by the weight.

Ok, emailed Dave at Avatar. Mine are indeed Eminence Neo's, but they are the model used before Eminence switched to the LF version you have joemer.

No biggie, got mine used at a sweet price from a great TB'er and they sound great :bassist:

Got the Carvin BX600 today, and damn its waaay louder than I thought it would be. More than enough to power the two cabs. Got some really nice tones out of it too. Still fine tuning, but after 3 hours or so I really started finding the sound i want. here are some pics of the rig, dont mine the BL600 on top, thats just there to lean the pod against for the very few times i use it.

I'm looking to upgrade cabs. I'm currently running a Fender 60th Anniversary P-Bass through and Ashdown 500 EVO II head. I want a cabinet that pushes out as much sound as something like an Ampeg 8x10 but apparently we're in a recession, so I dont have the extra $900+ to spend on a cab. The Avatar 4x10's on their website look like the real deal and are wildly affordable, but I'd like to hear from someone who has tried them out. Can anybody help me out? Sorry if this isn't the right thread or whatever. Thanks.:hiding:

That's great Levinfan. I'm glad that you got what you thought you were getting. By the way, how do you like it ? I'm lovin mine and can't wait to gig out with it.

I'll be trying it out in a band setting for the first time Sunday. I hope the room is decent so I can hear it pushed for the first time. It's never left my spare bedroom full of things that rattle and shake lol. But it'll rattle my bones at low volumes :D

I think it's a great stand alone cab. Yours 8 ohm or 4 ?

I was just curious, should I put the 410 on the bottom? I just stacked it this way because the 212 was SLIGHTLY bigger than the 410, but if I switched it, the 410 could support the 212 fine.

I was playing around with both cabs and to me, the 410 produces more low frequencies that the crowd can "feel", whereas the 212 just shoots it out over the crowd more. Do you guys think I would be better off with the 212 on top of the 410? Would it make much of a difference at all?

i got a question. im running a vintage acoustic 370 head into an avatar 4-10 neo and 2-12 neo. i seem to get a distortion when i turn it up anywhere even near halfway. they are both 8ohm cabs so it shouldn't be pushing too hard, and im running the EQ flat across the board. i just got the acoustic from ebay last week, but i was wondering if it might be something with amp, (caps, fuse, etc...idk) or am i just pushing my cab too hard, and distorting the actual speakers... =o help please, i really love my amp, and i want to be able to actually USE it. if it means anything also, i have never really experienced a similar prob out of my markbass little mark II. thanks TB

It's probably the head. I think they were rated at 10% THD so after about 5 on the dial they start to distort. I had a model 220 back in the 80's My guitarist ran an amp repair shop and put the head on an oscilloscope and at 8, 4, and 2Ω it would start to distort after 5 on the volume dial. You can probably bring it to an electronics shop and they can run the same test to see if that's the case. They will run down to 2Ω IIRC so that's the best way to get it loud.

I've been wanting to comment on my B410NEO as compared to the scene standard in this town for a while. The scene is dominated by Ampeg 8x10s. I've shared stages with at least 4 guys who use them and two touring bands that came through with them.

My B410NEO easily competes with those fridge cabs and in some cases I think is way louder. A few guys push their 8x10s with SVT-4 Pros (one was a touring band[Giants]...P Bass...sounded awesome) and I think the other fellas are using SVT-CLs. The SVT-4 guys were loud and one would sound better if the guy would EQ it right (more mids) and give up on those Warwick Rockbasses. The SVT-CLs I eat alive with my rig.

The B410 is thick and room filling in the low end...very full sounding and burly...something the 810s seemed to lack....you hear the bass. Again that is comparing other players EQing and playing their rigs.

My only complaint is not hearing my FX too well. I plan to get a B210 NEO to try to get a bit more mids and highs to compensate (with crossover). I got my 410 wired at 4ohms because I have a stereo power amp that will drop to 2 ohms bridged. I have the option to add cabs. I plan to use the 210NEO in portable small gig rig mode with a GK MB2-500 as well....but I digress.

For you, the Ashdown (according to the website) seems to push 575 watts at 4ohms so it would seem that you have choices. 575 watts into one 410NEO @ 4ohms would be a good matchup IMO, but wouldn't allow you the flexibility to add another cab in the future. I think it would compete with an 8x10. I'm pushing about 450 watts into my cab and still have a ton of volume left on my preamp. I can make up loss of air pushing with sheer volume. If you decide to go with an 8ohm load for your cab that will give the option to add cabs in the future but you won't be quite as loud going into one cab.

I will say that the SVT/8x10 does look sexy on stage compared to my metal grilled B410 (they are offering grill cloth know....for extra $$$). That seems to be what these guys are going for; aesthetic trumping tone. It's also nice to not need a truck to haul my fridge around in.
