Avocado!!!

That diminishes the beauty of the burrito as a self-contained, no-utensils-needed type of meal! You should be able to eat a good burrito while driving without spilling half of the contents into your lap!

There *is* a place in Arcadia that does a killer Chile Verde burrito that's just as you describe. Delicious but don't try driving with one.

It just takes a bit more finesse with a northern style burrito. You must respect the burrito, become one with the burrito. It commands and deserves your full attention, and if mastered, can be one of the greatest experiences one can have in life.

Ahem, sorry, last week while I was in Cali I wasn't able to get to my beloved Jaliscos for my favorite burrito of all time, and going on 2 years without and the likelihood that it will be a whole nother (is that a word?) year before I get out there to have one is making me a little loopy.

BTW, I'd take either a Norcal or Socal burrito over a Tex-Mex burrito any day. From what I've seen, Tex-Mex equals mediocre Mexican food smothered in nacho cheese... ahem, I mean "queso," and meant to be eaten with a fork. No bueno.

You find no stylistic variations between the subgenres?

I tend to find that food can vary drastically between one taqueria and the other down the street.
These regional differences you guys are going on about can be found to vary just as much on the local level.
I dont think SoCal or NorCal has any claim to better Mexican food.
Ive had great, and not so great, food from both areas.

Growing up we had/have two avocado trees in Mom's place back in Southeast Asia, and avocados were a dining table staple - whether part of a breakfast, lunch, or dinner dish, not to mention avocado shakes with milk and sugar in between meals (and during meals as well). Never got tired of the fruit.

One of the things I don't like about avocados is that I haven't figured out a way to make an entree out of them. Give me some egg plant, bok choy, or any number of veggies and I'll make a killer entree. Avocado are more of a side dish or garnish. :atoz:

Anyone have any good recipes for avocado entrees?

I dont have the recipe, but BJs makes an awesome avocado eggroll.
Its got some chipotle and a few other ingredients. I think that'd work as an entree.
