BTW, how do you like the big Sumo?
I like it a lot!
I was recently able to take it (and my 4x10) out to my family's farm and really open it up; test a variety of boost pedals.
I'm after the simplest setup for clean sound, so my
MXR Custom Audio Electronics Boost / Line Driver worked best overall. Shockingly loud!
Surprisingly, my
Darkglass HyperLuminal offered about the same amount of boost, so that's been my main boost/pre of late.
My newish
IdiotBox Energizer! worked really well too, but got a little feedback happy when dimed.
...there's so many good pres out that it makes it hard to pick just one so I prefer getting a few flavors and swapping them in and out to taste
This was good advice and is what I've been doing with it the last few months. When I was able to do that test run, I didn't have many proper preamps. Of what I do have, I'd say my
Quilter InterBass worked best in that regard.
I do have a
EQD Tone Job that works great for me at home at low volumes, but wasn't near loud enough when I was out on the farm. That said, I just got a 18v power supply for it, so I'll try again. If it matches the loudness of the MXR Line Driver, I'd prefer to settle on the Tone Job. I love its EQ and how clean it is.
I also have a
Rusty Box that I plum forgot to bring with, and have an
Abominable Sunnbather DI on order, so I'll try those out next time I get out there. Tho I suppose neither of those would be
clean preamps, exactly...
The
Mesa Subway DI has been on my wishlist for a long time.. someday I'll have the money..
Lately I've been lusting for a
Tech 21 Q Strip...
I also wonder how a
Darkglass Harmonic Booster would work??
Arghh! GAS is real!
