That's what I've been saying all along. Seems like no one here likes japanese basses unless the have American brand names on the headstock (Fender, Sadowsky, Lakland) , lol
Besides the ones that occasionally come up on the TB Classifieds, where does one purchase a new Bacchus in the USA (or import from)?

I bought my WL JB5 from Danny M Stewart. He has a posting for his webstore here on talkbass.
He went above and beyond as far as answering all of my questions and securing me a body with grain that I liked.
He even got it to me in under a week.
I would, without hesitation, buy from him again.

Well, I just traded 2 Japanese Basses (Aria Pro II's) for the Bacchus Strong 5er from Brett. I'll post pics soon. Off to play this Bad Boy at Ziggies in Columbus.

Here's a nice representation of what a Bacchus Woodline sounds like live, both fingerstyle and slap. This has recently become my favorite of the three Bacchus basses I own. My son is playing it with his HS band Odd Army at a recent gig at Santana Row.
Stock pickups, Audere preamp going through a Markbass CMD112P + NY112 extension cab. Outdoor gig, no PA support for bass, recorded with a cheap camcorder and audio synced via Sony ICD-SX1000 portable flash recorder.

Nice basses looking at all the pics. I don't have a Bacchus, but I have one of the other Headway basses that preceded Bacchus. I have a Riverhead Spector bass (a pretty rare model, I have yet to see another one in this country,I have seen a couple in Japan) - Riverhead though is more famous for it's Jupiter, Unicorn, Phantom line of basses- all high end quality stuff.
Before Bacchus, Headway produced Riverhead basses, high-end production models in Japan- there was a factory fire and rather than restarting Riverhead in the early/mid Nineties, Headway/Deviser the parent company decided to start anew with a new brand altogether, Bacchus which maintain the production of high end basses of excellent quality.
Wow, some of these basses are really beautiful.

Correct. However, the Riverhead brand was still continued until January 2004. These Riverhead were Vintage Series exactly the same as the Bacchus Vintage Series both in build and parts. Both Bacchus and Riverhead Vintage Series were produced and sold side by side from 1994 until January 2004. I have a 1998 Riverhead RPB 57 which is the twin brother of Bacchus BPB 57.

Gigged her for the first time this past Saturday night. All I can say is wow! As many of you know, I've owned nearly every big name builder bass out there. This can hang with pretty much anything in terms of build quality, playability and most importantly, tone.
After our sound check, my guitarist grabbed me and said "I really, really like the tone of that bass".
Has just the right amount of growl and burp. Sounds very full without being muddy at all. The notes on the D and G strings carry a lot of weight and punch but, are not thin or muddy. I was so in love with the tone the whole night that I completely forgot to put it in "boost mode" and try that live. I think that I have a new #1. It's that damn good!
