I had a few minutes to play the two ML-112's against my AE212 tonight. The high end was remarkably similar, considering the different components used to reproduce them. The Berg was a tad smoother in the highs (and overall), but these two enclosure setups were the most similar up high. The mids had more variation going on, with the Baers having noticeably more upper midrange aggression and the Berg being a bit more full in the low mids. The transition from mids to highs is smoother in the AE212, whereas the ML-112 has a little extra presence right around this transition point.
The low end is where these cabs differed the most. The AE212 was much bigger and wider sounding, and the two ML-112's were much more focused and also a bit more tight. The Baers might not be entirely broken in, which may contribute slightly to this discrepancy, but I am confident that this distinction will still exist, albeit possibly at a slightly reduced level, once they are fully broken in. It's not that the AE212 is not tight (it certainly is), and it's not that the ML-112's are not full sounding down low (they certainly are). But back to back, you can't help but feel that the AE212 is just "bigger" sounding and the ML-112's are "more focused" when it comes to the low end. They both seemed to reach about as low, and both were very strong (though in different ways) on a low
B.
With the low frequency performance being the biggest standout difference, the other overall impression is that the Berg is smoother and a bit more "round," and the Baer ML-112's are a bit more aggressive and tight. Overall output seemed relatively similar, with the Berg seeming to be more sensitive in the lower mids and the Baers being more sensitive in the upper mids. With some EQ, you can definitely bring the two to sound a good bit more like the other, but the big/wide versus focused thing is still there, as is the smoother driver to tweeter (or midrange) transition of the Berg versus the (intentional and highly functional) upper mid aggression of the ML-112.
Two different flavors of great, IME/IMHO. YMMV, of course.
