Baer Amplification Megathread!

We've been working on the ML115 for a few months now. The ML212 fills the need for a bigger and louder ML112 type tone, so I think we have that tone profile covered pretty well. For me, when I think 15" cab, I think vintage tone, so that's what we are going for. Different voicing on the 15" driver and a different mid. While the 12" cabs have a very modern voice, the ML115 will be all about big, fat vintage like tone. Bigger low end, less upper mids and a less extended top end reach.

Sweet Roger! What will the impedance be for the ML115?

Sweet Roger! What will the impedance be for the ML115?

The ML115 is 8ohm. Maybe it's just me, but I like the 8ohm format, especially in these days of high powered heads. One cabs covers smaller gigs and you don't have to worry about your 900watt head cooking your voice coils. Stack two of these cabs with that 900watt head and and you've got a rig capable of doing battle with Godzilla. :bassist:

+1 The 8 ohm 400 watt format is a winner. I just picked up a pair of ML112 with padded covers to have something smaller for use in an acoustic setting but a pair of these are just right for a cranking rock and blues gig. Being familiar with the Eminence 3012LF and 3012HO drivers, I wanted to see how these turned out. The ML112 woofer voicing sits between these two and seems to combine the best features of both. The lows are solid, full, and tight and the mids have good presence. The crossover is very smooth with a good transition from woofer to mid. These sound excellent with both my GB Shuttle Max 9.2 and Streamliner 900. The SM9.2 has a bit more snap to it and a more versatile eq but the tone with the STM900 is addicting so it gets most of the play time. It just kills with the Valenti PJ5 pictured; a very sweet rig indeed. Nice job Roger! :bassist::bassist::p

Okay, so I have been working on a project for the last couple of weeks. I bought a EBS T90 valve amp a couple of weeks ago. When I got it; the tolex was off, the hardware was off, it didn't have long enough feet to clear Roger's handles, it needed de-badging, and the diamond extrusion had to go. The same day it arrived, I decided to mod/overhaul the amp. I wanted a perfect matched head case to go with the sexy ML cabs I have. I sourced all of the parts I needed, and this is what I ended up with. FWIW, the T90's dimensions are built for these cabs!! I haven't had a chance to really crank the amp through the cabs. I will tomorrow night though. I will say this, relaying vinyl SUCKS!! A very tedious PITA. I made some mistakes, but I was fortunate enough to hide them. The first try was a failure. It took two attempts to get it right.....well about 90% right. The other 10% are mistakes only I will notice (or somebody who does vinyl for a living). Pics, enjoy!

NOTE - One of the pics shows the back of the amp. It does have a back cover, the pic was taken with the cover off. I forgot to put the cover back on before I snapped pics.

You'll be amazed at what 1ea ML112 can do as a stand alone. A pair is brutal. The pair is nice for stage though. It balances out the aesthetics of the rig and puts your amp at arms reach:eek:. The first ML is a like a booster seat for the second one:D Aside from that, you really can get by with one. Assuming your bandmates aren't complete bafoons when it comes to volume. Even though I use one most of the time, I need a pair. A pair comes in handy.

That Valenti looks sweet. The midrange grind of a P-Bass really seems to just work really with the ML112s.

The ML112 make-over on the EBS amp came out very cool indeed! Glad you were able to find all the parts. That's got to be a great sounding rig with the Lakland and a tube amp. If you are looking for work doing Tolex, just let me know. :D

Really appreciate you guys posting the pics! I get a kick out of seeing "my kids" all grown up and out in the world on their own!

I just received a Baer ML112 today!
Looking forward to putting it through a good workout,.
I was supposed to have a rehearsal tonight with a rock trio unfortunately the singer-guitarist threw out his back earlier and we had to cancel:(
I did get a chance to play a bit at home at low volume and compare it to my Thunderchild 12.
I thought these cabs would sound pretty similar but they're VERY different!
I'll play some more tomorrow at slightly louder levels and give the drivers a chance to loosen a bit before reporting back with a more detailed account.
All I can say now is that the Thunderchild is very full (with lots mids and low mids) and smooth whereas the Baer sounds more like a bass cab with lots of upper mids (great articulation if you dig that sort of tone) and a comparatively attenuated low end (but I'm guessing that will change a bit after a few hours of use).

Very different tone goals on the two cabs. While some players debate the "break in" theory, these particular drivers will definitely sound fuller and warmer with 4 or 5 hours of playing on them. Also, these cabs can require a slightly different approach to eq. While most players instinctively boost the bass knob to make a cab sound fuller, try turning down the the treble on the ML112's if you want to warm them up a bit.

Glad to hear the cab made the trip to the Great White North intact!

I have to say that the ML112's are definitely catching my attention...I've been looking hard at the Barefaced Big Twin T and while it seems impressive, the thought of two smaller 112 cabs is intriguing me...

Can anyone shed some light on the sonic differences between these two choices?

I want a pair of ML112s so badly. Looks like in going to have to sell blood and see people to finance them. Speaking of which there should be a financing option fur sorry saps like yours truly. Anyways Roger really did a fantastic job on these. If you go on soundcloud you can hear some nice high quality samples of em. Roger you should thank him, hes the one who confirm my next GAS purchase.

is there a wait time for the ML112?
Right now, I have about 15 cabs left in stock. Lead time is typically around 3 weeks, when the cabs are not in stock.

I tell ya, I really do wish I could get these out to you guys cheaper, but between the components and the construction, there just isn't much room to cut cost. We actually should have raised the price on these a while back, to account for the over 40% increase in driver cost we have seen over the last 9 months, but we have just absorbed those cost for now. We won't be able to absorb those cost forever, but we are doing what we can for the moment.

I completely understand. Dang precious metals. One thing for sure, I don't doubt that they are worth every penny. May not be to day may not be tomorrow but I will own a pair of your fine cabs. Can't wait to be the only guy in Vegas with fancy bass cabs

+1 Two flavors of wonderful. And, while I don't notice much of a break-in effect in most cabs, yours is one that really smooths out after a few hours of playing.

I like to describe the differences between your cab and Duke's as the difference between a really good bass cab and a studio monitor. Both have their place in the market IMO!

Yeah, these cabs develop a bit more bottom after some break-in time.

I'm really digging 'em. They just do what I ask them to, with EQ. With my previous cabs I've needed to use EQ to tame some sort of baked-in-the-cake tone quirk--like reining in the tweet, or trying to shelve a low-end extension that was more than I wanted.

Not with the ML112s; I use the EQ creatively, for tone sculpting. Mo' bettah, def. :bassist:

So I managed to play a bit more today:
The Baer cab sounds great with my DB750, reining in the warm fat low end and giving a little more high mid detail. With the GK MB Fusion it still sounds good but both pieces of gear being sort of aggressively voiced makes for too much of a good thing and ends up sounding a bit harsh and clanky.
Of course dialing in some EQ changes that, but I still had a hard time getting a thick sounding G string.
I had another bassist come over and fiddle around with my gear and he seemed very pleased with the ML112, I gather he thought the Thunderchild sounded too mid heavy and a bit congested in comparison.
So all in all, although none of this really matters until I hear the cab at gig levels, I'm very happy with my purchase.
I'll report back once I've AB'ed these boys in a band context.

Just placed an order for an ML112 cab...while I was at work over the phone...

Roger stopped what he was doing to help me out and insure delivery by next Wednesday...THANKS Roger...if all goes as I suspect, I'm sure I'll be ordering another one in a week or two!!!
