Baer Amplification Megathread!

That pickup configuration seems to have become my new favorite. Not much you can't do with the setup!

Well I am officially a proud owner of a Baer ML 212. I understand this cabinet is discontinued and up for revision. If the new design is better I can't understand how. I have yet to gig with it but I can honestly say it's the best sounding bass enclosure I have ever owned. Deep tight lows, smooth mids with silky highs make this thing really sing. It brings the thunder in a not so huge package. This should handle my large venue and outdoor needs just fine. I did some testing using both a Genzler Magellan 800 and GK MB500 Fusion. It seems to play very well with both. My basses honestly

Congrats on the find! They are a rare beast indeed! The challenge to bringing it back into the line up is trying to recreate this cab at a weight, size and price that would compete with other 212 cabinets on the market today. That dual mid setup, with its separate enclosure just made this a very expensive cabinet to produce. It certainly was a fun cab to plug into though!

The ML212 has two mid drivers to keep up with the two woofers. That suggests just adding another woofer might overwhelm the single mid in the ML. If you can't get another ML112, I think you'd need another two-way cab of some sort. Finding one that compliments the ML is the trick. Mixing cab brands is always a gamble.

Mixing cabs can always yield unexpected results, but sometimes that's a good thing. Maybe a cab that has a scooped mid section would benefit from the ML112's added upper mids. Also, I've tried the ML112 with both our new APX112 And APX210 and thought they were a great match, especially the APX210 as it's a warmer cab with less upper mids than the APX112.

Maybe I could get some help with a question in regards to a Baer cab. I have an Arkham all tube 45 watt amps much like the Ampeg portaflex amp. Which Baer cab if any would be a good match for this low powered tube amp? Thanks in advance

The ML112 has a fairly high sensitivity and that 6" mid drivers sounds fantastic with all tube amplifiers. The new APX112 and APX210 would also play very nice with that amp. They use a horn instead of a mid driver, but the horn really does capture a lot of the vibe of the 6" mid driver, while providing some extra sparkle up top. I would think that even though the amp only has 45watts, you could probably do a medium size gig with that and the APX210.

Roger you really are amazing at product support. The other Roger is awesome too but you just flatly edged him out. Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping that the ML112 would be a great pairing. I really love the idea of the organic sounding 6" instead of a tweeter. I was looking at the Mesa Subway 112 then stumbled onto your ML112 that just really sounded by many many accounts as what I would want to use I just wanted to make sure that it would marry well

Hey Jesse, I've always been a tube guy and the ML112 came about after we designed our Valkyrie amp which had a tube drive section. After trying various cabs on the market with tweeters, I just couldn't get the tubes to speak with the voice I wanted until I tried building my own cabinet with a mid driver instead. That mid driver just really helps emphasize the extra harmonics coming from the tubes. It's also fabulous with P-basses and fretless basses as well.

I have played several tube heads through my original ML112's and they have all sounded amazing. I was particularly happy with how some of my lower-powered tube heads sounded with them, so I think they'd be a good choice. I have not tried as many tube heads through my newer APX cabs, but perhaps I should...
