I finally got to crank my PD212D at last whilst recording our latest album in the studio :) & was reassured how loud it got as I haven't actually gigged this cab yet but can't wait now (but will have to for now)

Im thinking that i need to get a S15 or two....
I had the S-15-B-D .. It was my FAVE 15 of all time..... I got one of mine on craigslist for $250 and it was dead mint condition. That 349 is a bit high IMO...

In the 80s i had a custom made BagEnd D-15B-D deep cab.. Killer! used that on many arena tours..

A pair of S15 cabs would be great.. i Think...... I often wondered and asked here on TB if the BE S15 goes as deep as lets say a aggy GS112?// I ask that as a reference point since i never had a regular S15 cab. No one has the answer

But I'm thinking I might be a Bag End convert. They are the polar opposite of my fEARfuls, but the old-school goodness is wonderful.

I used to play a huge stained wood Bag End 115 back in the late 70's/early 80's. Maybe I'm coming full circle!

Can a GK MB 200 drive a 18B-D? I'm not not looking for SPL, but simply sound quality out of a single box for at home use/recording. Or if I moved up to MB500/800, would I basically not be able to turn the volume knob because these are so loud?

Absolutely. These are incredibly efficient cabs. They only take 200 watts RMS, but it'll sound like 500. :)
You could blow it with a MB800 or maybe MB500, but it'll get really loud before it dies, so you'd probably have plenty of warning.

The 18B-D has enough low end that it sounds a bit muted compared to the S15-D. For recording I think I might like the S15-D better. You can add the low end in with eq, and the tone has more personality.

No problem, I hope it helps. :)

If you're worried two of them would be too loud, don't. The volume with two can get a lot louder, but it's totally manageable. In my practice room I actually have a S15B-D / S15-D stack, and I can easily go from whisper quiet to ear-shattering.

Does the high end of a 15 do pretty well? You've never wanted for a 10 it seems. I might be able to grab a 15/18 stack myself used.

I haven't used their 10s but I've heard from others that they have a different vibe than the 15s. The 15 has a nice musical high end, but it doesn't have the crystalline modern sound of a tweeter. It's a very mid-focused sound which I consider quite beautiful in an expressive but non hifi way. That's personal preference. I have a S15-D and a S15X-D (with tweeter), and they both sound good but different. I've never used one of their 18s.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you using to power your 15/18 stack in terms of watts?

Currently I alternate between a Fender Super Bassman 300 (300 watt tube) and a Kustom KXB500 (500 watts at 4 ohms). I've also used a GB ShuttleMax 9.2 (900 watts at 4 ohms). They all work fine.

Oh, and I typed incorrectly, I have a 15B-D, not a 18B-D. I'll correct me previous post. Sorry for any confusion.

When I was using my s15xd s18bd stack I powered them with an eden wt800, ampeg v4b, or a carvin bx500. They 18s can take a bunch of power but really only need 200 or so watts to open up and sound nice. I didn't really dig those cabinets together though. The 18 is a great cabinet and the only downfall is that the highs roll off pretty early which gives it a very vintage vibe. I loved the tone of the v4b through the 18bd. I was hoping the 15 coaxial speaker would fill in the upper range but the mid heavy presence of the cabinet just buried the 18.

I still keep the 18 in the practice room but gig with a s15d/s15xd stack and those cabinets work great together. With the Eden putting out about 400 watts that stack can get very loud but also sounds great at low volume. I just picked up a Mesa Walkabout and even with just 300 watts those bag 15s could knock down walls if need be. Great little boxes.

Lot of love for the dual 15's. Does is matter what models? Or can you just take two S-15d's (which are readily available) and use them to fine effect?

I have used the s15ds, s15bds, s15xds mixed and matched with good results. They all have the same driver(the xd just has a crossover/tweeter built in) and the extended range of the bd plays nicely with the s15d. I would shy away from a pair of xd speakers since the tweeter is at a set level and the one alone can get a little shrill. I usually run the two cabinets on the separate power amps of the Eden and have the blend a notch or two towards the non tweeter cabinet to balance them.

I have played small/medium sized rooms with s18B-D which is the larger boxed 18 with optional port. Without pa support in a crowded bar it did pretty well. I ran out of clean head room pretty fast but that was when I was using a v4 with it. I never have bridged the eden into it(would be 800 watts) but I have heard of people throwing a bunch of power into those cabinets with good results. My only knock on the cabinet is that it can be a bit dark with the upper mids rolling off at 2khz. That and it is a beast to move.
