Bag End Stack in the House!

I have search but not found an answer.. I love bag end cabs... And was thinking of maybe getting a pair of S15 cabs.. I am currently using Aguilar DB112s and GS112s.
Has anyone AB the Aggys112s to a Bag End S15 style cab? If So.. do the BE cabs have anywhere near the lows of the GS or DB 112s?
I know it is a 12 vs 15 cab... but the BE are ported on th erear with a small volume cab and wondered if they are able to compete.

I, at one time, had a pair of DB112s and the S15x/S15 stack side by side in my practice space. I heard them side by side a lot.

I still have the Bag Ends. The DB112s have great low mid presence, and have a lot of "grunt". But the Bag Ends were crisper and more even sounding, and I found them more versatile. They are also easier to carry.

Can't go wrong with either. Both the Aguilar and the Bag Ends are world class cabs.

Little contribution to the Bag End stack. Have been using the S12-C pair, but love to mix it up.

I owned a GS112 and an S15XD and ran them together for a while. The pair together sounded terrible honestly. I always thought I liked the scooped sound of the GS112, and paired with the BE's mids, I thought it would be a nice match.

Turned out that the GS112 really couldn't hang with the "muscle" of the S15XD, and really got drowned out. I sold the GS112, and I started using the BE alone from that point on. The BE by itself had way more girth and volume than the Aggie, and came really close in the low end. In fact, it was close enough to not bug me much at all.

Later I added an S-15LD and the low end is HUGE from the LD/XD stack.

Thank you CapnSev.
mmm... so the low end was similar.. cool. because im now using Aggy DB112s. i think they have less lows than the GS but that was OK.. .. i did the change to try and get more mids... just not happy yet..
Im really thinking that i would like the BE.. i used them for years and about 8 years ago stopped.. i think its time to go back to the BE.. so you say the BagEnds were louder too? that is always a good thing.. that way i could run my amp lower... mmmm now im thinking

i concur mostly. the aggie 112 and the BE 112 sounded a lot better together, but the BE cabs really had more volume than the Aggie in a mono amp setup. the s15 buried it volume wise.

that said, the aggies are great cabs, i wouldn't hesitate to use one or a pair (or more) again. IME, the aggie had a much fatter tone and i didn't need to boost the bass like i sometimes do with the BE cabs. if anything i had to goose the mids or just turn up to get the mids of the aggie to wake up as the driver started responding differently at the higher power level.

The BE is significantly louder.

IvanMike is right in the fact that if I do use the S-15XD on it's own, I find myself bumping the lows just a little. I never did that with the Aggie, but I would have to bump up the mids to cut though. So I guess it's a trade-off of which frequency you want to boost. :smug:

Roland TR-77. The tones are a bit uninspiring at low volume, but if you boost the lows and crank the volume, it's awesome. There are actually several hundred potential rhythm combinations it can do, but I tend to stick with either a sweet reggae beat (mix of bossa, "latin", "western", and foxtrot, at slow tempo) or a simple son clave. There are some nice demos of the various vintage analog beat boxes on Youtube; search on "minipops" to get started. :)

Here is my stack. OMG! I played two shows with them so far, we have a four-piece horn section and I have no trouble being heard in the mix all the while holding down the thick and gooey bottom end. No EQing problems either, I run the DB750 flat. Never need to go through the PA. I have no desire to play anything else.

On my last gig a fellow bass player was so complimentary, he said "I wish I could sound like that, that is the way bass is supposed to sound!"

Bump form the guy trying to buy michaelvee's BE stack. Do I get to inherit this thread with the cabs? :hmm:

Yes. Here's the official passing of the "Bag End stack in the house!" torch to Bill. With the caveat that he must take a picture of the WT-405 and Bag stack, preferably with that Thumb bass in the picture, and post it here!

I really hated to let the stack go, but I have not been playing live in some time, and it was better to get to them to a deserving player who will use them more. Bill's a terrific guy and they are in good hands with him.

Having said that.. :crying: Well, not too bad, anyway, yet. I will miss them, though.. a lot.
