Double Bass bag your bass every night? (DB forum thread)

In the corner. Usually facing in with the bow under the E string. I have also put 4" squares of cork on the wall to protect the edges of the shoulders.

I leave all my instruments out...guitars hang on the wall, piano stays out, and the bass stays out. If put 'em in a case or bag, I can't walk by and play for 5 minutes.

I probalby get an extra 30 or 45 minutes of playing each day just in 3-5 minute snippets.

They're meant to be played, not stored.

last earthquake we had i found my bass face planted on the floor-there was no damage but it scared me enough to bag it up everynight

If it's just me at home and dont' need the space: on the floor on it's side. Otherwise it's up on the stand.

I have two cats and have at least one or two dusty house renovations going on at any moment (it's never ending, don't ask!). So I keep all my basses in their bags. When I finish the renovations to my music room (hopefully sometime in 2010), I plan to keep at least one bass bag-less on a stand so I can just pick it up & start playing w/o fussing w/ the de-bagging process. I'd rather not cover my basses, but I also don't have a good place to store all the bulky bags when I'm not using them.

On an Ingles stand in a corner. I also keep a quiver attached to my Manhasset music stand so that my bow is easy to get at. This makes it easy to grab the bass for a few minutes, whether on purpose or on a whim. If the bass was in the bag, I'd have much less playing time.

A friend once asked if I could recommend any accessories for his son's new bass and I suggested the Ingles stand. The next time I stopped by, his bass was indeed on the Ingles stand...but in the bag. When I told him he'd missed the whole point of keeping the bass on the stand, he said he was afraid of "permanent dust."

I missed asking him about all that permanent dust that must be building up on the basses on display at the shop where he bought that bass...oh, for another chance.

I keep my basses in my music room, so it's just easier to leave them on one of those five rack stands. No harm so far, that I can tell.
