Ban Hammer

To the Mods for letting us have some fun and not shutting this Thread down.

It's creeping into the questionable area.

The rules really aren't hard to follow. Thousands of people follow them every day.
This is why we should be informed what caused someone to become banned. Examples are better teachers than rules.
I wish that the "Banned" icon would link to whatever they said to earn the honor. Without it, it's like obituaries without cause of death.
See above.

John Lennon argued that Elvis for all intents and purposes died when he entered the army.
Akin to that, I felt Nobody died when he exchanged his po-faced, all-glories-to-Fender Cat Persona for that of crotchety, angry old white guy (talk about a difficult persona with which to distinguish oneself, particularly round these parts). Sometimes it is preferable not to know the performer behind the mask.

As For SF, I mourn his absence. I found his louche persona and Seinfeldian, "nothing happens" posts to be sufficiently amusing that I had come to anticipate them. His low-rent, besotted, 'let it all hang out' style made him a sort of inhouse barroom philospher. Unfortunately, he was better and tweaking noses than taking tweaks, and spent a lof of time whining at the moderators, who for the most part went out of their way to offer SF well-meant advice on improving hia game both on tb and in life in general. These good deeds went unrewarded, of course, and the car careened on toward the cliff.

One commonality between Nobody and SF was the tendency to give repeated voice to a persecution complex. In that regard one might argue both were 'asking for it.'

Is there any way to tell if someone is perma-banned as opposed to simply on a 'time out'?

Yes, but if the evidence is cleaned up then there's little opportunity for others to learn from it if they haven't been checking TB all day due to work or having an offline life :)
The purpose of banning someone, is they posted something that should not be posted, therefore keeping it posted, defeats the entire purpose, doesn't it?

Perhaps a rogue's gallery, with rules violated, rather than the actual content.
But then, that is targeting and impugning the reputation of those banned.

Posting the content would lead to debate, and further bans for questioning the validity of the decision.

It is often far more than just one misstep across the line (not always)
