Band drama. Can I please have opinions?

This could start a new thread, but it amazes me that a member of the band described here actually thinks gigs will come. Especially when the drummer doesn't want to do it. Amazing how many people I have met like that.

On topic: OP did exactly what I would have done. I am shocked you waited so long to get out, but better late than never I guess. Handled like a pro too.

"I live in NY. The band is based in CT, 60 miles from my house going the direct way"

And it's your second band ? I raise my glass to you , sir ! I have to drive an hour to two for practices and have often wondered if my non musician friends/family think I'm crazy. LOL !

I'm not sure what any of these guys are really thinking. Guitarist 2 (the one that said he wants to gig) probably figures that they'll gig eventually. His wedding is coming up in April, and we were supposed to play a few songs at it. So maybe he thinks it'll jump start everything?

Playing at the wedding was another ridiculous thread that I made a few months back. So of you may remember it. Cliffs:

Guitarist 2 want us to play some songs. Here's the list...
Modern Day Cowboy - Tesla
Mary Jane's Last Dance
Wanted: Dead or Alive
Wasted Years: Iron Maiden
Barracuda
All high quality "wedding" songs of course
Guitarist 2 also wants it to be a jam session, allowing anyone who plays to come up and play a song.
He expects these people to use our gear, he never asked.
Bassist (me) has no interest in letting some drunk person I've never met play on any part of my rig, let alone my bass.
Drummer (who is in the wedding) has no interest in playing it at all

We'd need to bring all of our gear long before the gig, set up, then leave it at the venue for hours. Only guitarist 2 is comfortable with that
Guitarist 2 thinks it's a great idea, and doesn't see the problem of entertaining at his own wedding.
The whole thing IS going to be a disaster. I want no part of it.
Everybody on TB wants to see some video of us going down in flames.

The cover is much closer, and considering I put basically no time into the originals band it didn't interfere at all. If anything, the originals band interfered with me learning all of the material for the cover band!

Sounds like you have been wasting your time all a long with these guys. No commitment no band.

I somewhat disagree. Did you learn to play new stuff, did the guitarists play riffs that were interesting and maybe different than you hear in your head? These are all things and ideas that you'll have in your head and can be used in other situations.

That said, you've gotten what you can out of this time investment, and not it's time to ,move on.

When we were actively writing, and just trying in general, yeah...things were pretty good. I think playing with people is always going to push you to be a better player, well it does for me at least.

With that said, it was definitely time to move on.
