*is uncomfortably aware that his own band's name is verb the noun form, despite not being hardcore/metalcore*
My freshman year roommate said he'd always wanted to start a band named "Death Spares Not The Tiger" until he found out that there was already a band named Death Spares Not The Tiger.
But 'trying to sound tough' fits.
OK, it's one example, but I was retorting a claim of:
"just about every metal group with a name trying to sound like the members are tough guys"
I get more than a little tired of people prejudging Heavy Metal unfairly like that.
It's a preconceived notion that is wildly untrue.
the backwards 'R' in 'Korn' makes it even worse. It's the first letter of the Russian alphabet, you klowns.Breaking Benjamin
Imagine Dragons
Tennis
Crystal Castles
3 Doors Down
Staind
Korn
Sea And Cake
...the end is listless, as they say;p
Being a metal head anymore is a really weird thing. I'm a fan and practitioner of the megadeth era of metal, whereas now I tell people I'm in a metal band and they automatically think its a church hating, 666, I'll eat your children in Satan's name, offensive for the sake of being offensive type band. So many metal bands out there now have band names that aren't clever or thought out, just offensive for the sake of it. "Gasp, did you hear what that band calls itself!?" Boom, publicity.
That's a metalhead's cross to bear I suppose. I can't stand it, but it is what it is.
Agreed. Most of modern metal are "core" bands, and I've just lost touch with the whole scene. I liked early Killswitch Engage, but every new metal band since sounds like them. The younger kid at work knows I listen to metal and he's always like "Have you heard the new (Insert modern metal band) album? Wanna go see August Burns Red?". I just look at him like a deer in headlights. Modern metal has forced me to go back to the 80's and 90's to catch up on bands I missed. It's not that I'm getting old....newer music really does suck, no matter the genera.
Yeah, well, we had The Yeasty Girls and Man Hole. Both all girl bands. I really wanted a Yeasty Girls tee shirt but no way did I have the nerve to wear one in public. Two local bands from Back in The Day:
DitchWitch; the implement company of the same name sued them
Chicks with D****; an all female punk band from back around 1979.
Nope, it ain't. I have really gotten into a few of the modern stoner metal bands...blame it on the Sabbath sound. I like The Sword, Electric Wizard, Goatsnake...hell,I love YOB, those guys can do no wrong in my eyes.I agree with you. There are a couple of bands that have come out recently (The Sword and Nihilist come to mind) that have been holding it down with relative authenticity, but in general when someone asks "have you heard this (insert generic offensive metal band name)?" the answer is a firm "No."
Metal ain't what it used to be.
This thread is just great...so I'll submit a properly-censored name...
**** and the *** of **** by ******** in ****
Also there is the most metal band name of all time: Death Fist Kill Guy
