Band names that make you shake your head

Being a metal head anymore is a really weird thing. I'm a fan and practitioner of the megadeth era of metal, whereas now I tell people I'm in a metal band and they automatically think its a church hating, 666, I'll eat your children in Satan's name, offensive for the sake of being offensive type band. So many metal bands out there now have band names that aren't clever or thought out, just offensive for the sake of it. "Gasp, did you hear what that band calls itself!?" Boom, publicity.

That's a metalhead's cross to bear I suppose. I can't stand it, but it is what it is.
No offense intended, but you have "666" in your screen name and, I'm assuming here, that your band's name is Masochist. Personally, I think Masochist is a great metal name, I just thought your statement was funny with those two things in mind.

You know what? Damn fine point, sir. Damn fine point. That's actually hilarious.

I guess is what I meant is this; it depends on how seriously you take it. It's sort of funny to watch how people react when they believe that's really what you believe.

As far as offensive for just being offensive, grab the nearest Cannibal Corpse album, flip it over and read the song titles. To me, that's 100% over the top. Masochist is a pretty tame name compared to a lot of the new stuff.

But +1000 to your point. I was laughing typing this post. :D

Anything overly complicated to spell or pronounce always enrages me on behalf of anyone who has to market them. Metal and Scandinavia as a whole can get away with it, but if you're American and being like "We are Megarido Ottibracon Asperi" ... The bands not gonna make it.

Bonus favorite artist name: The Tallest Man on Earth
Oneders

I'm glad you took it that way, and Masochist is definitely on the tame side of metal band names. That's what it should be, though. Don't have some stupid name by which your music will be pre-judged. Granted, one of the bands we played with at a showcase a few weeks back thought my band, Saint Sylvia, was a praise and worship band :roflmao:.

People always thought that. Because: people.

This is true, but travelling along the same vein that @Duder pointed out, I guess tight ripped jeans, leather jackets, long hair, and loud drunken metalheads all head banging don't really look like the most inviting bunch. Although in my experience its the opposite; metalheads are some of the most "welcome aboard dude!" people I've ever met.

Deathcore bands have some of the dumbest names out there:
Bring me the Horizon
Of Mice and Men
See You Next Tuesday
Bleeding From Within
The Red Chord
Chelsea Grin
Fit For an Autopsy
Thy Art Is Murder.

They are just word salads that sound cool, or are something that is super un-metal.

Cherry Poppin' Daddies have always been a favorite - but in some places they were banned from advertizing with their full name and were forced to promote as "The Daddies."
Cherry Poppin' Daddies

Also - in SF there was n all girl Country Band called the Kuntry Kuntz who experienced similar marketing problems.
And then there's the band ****....
